    Retropie ??? Amibian ???

Yes, I was talking more in general, when comparing a large number of desktops big and small, with different toolkits and feature sets.

    Retropie ??? Amibian ???

Simple memory plots such as these don't really tell the whole story though. You'd need separate plots for resident memory, shared memory and total memory after some use, not just idling. After a while the mostly unused memory regions get swapped out. Running applications using the same shared...

    Retropie ??? Amibian ???

Yeah, I really don't think total memory consumption will be a primary concern in DEs for pyra. Usability with pyra's input devices and CPU & I/O usage seem much more relevant. The DE can use 500MiB memory for all I care as long as it keeps CPU and I/O mostly free for applications and can...

    Surprise Attack!

Core developers yes, but there's also the random maybe-developers such as myself :P

What is a good x86 Linux OS similar to the Pyra to get familiar with?

Seems the biggest point of contest is the line which corresponds to the analogy of "turning the screwdriver to tighten the screw". I'd suggest looking it from a goal-oriented view and looking how far you need to go to get the job done if you only care about the end result. For example, to book...

    SUGGESTION: Hold mode

Doesn't pandora have a hold switch as well? I don't think I've ever used it though :P

So, so many little things that can go wrong. Glad you're taking the time to get it right.

When Pyra would be cheaper? When There would be new replacement boards?

Okay, what would be an acceptable price point for you for a device with the current specs? I'm fairly certain, based on the conversation so far, that your answer is going to be under the price of manufacturing one :)

When Pyra would be cheaper? When There would be new replacement boards?

    1. Short answer is no one knows. Lowering the price significantly would probably require orders of magnitude higher production volume. I doubt these are anything ED can look up in a price chart, but rather separately negotiated deals. The profit margin is already quite low as is. 2. Short...

    Devuan, anyone?

@Penguin-Guru: Well said. For my part I only posted here again because of blatant name calling like "shitstemd", an attempt to hijack the term "linux" to only refer to distributions or setups that have or don't have some components in addition to the kernel, and some factual inaccuracies. To...

    FunKeyMonkey

Hmm, guess that depends on the keyboard interpreting end. Since funkeymonkey works at the keyboard level, it doesn't have a concept of characters as much as events. Since there's no specific way for any keyboard to communicate for example "ñ", it's always interpreted from other events, like the...

    Devuan, anyone?

One shouldn't. One of those is a service manager (and an init system), the other is a kernel and in a larger context a name for operating systems based on that kernel, some of which use the former. A user can do a lot of nasty stuff once inside a system. Typically remote exploits are considered...

I think most of it could've been avoided had you not done this: Your initial point and delivery was good. You may have considered what was said inaccurate or incorrect, but that reaction was uncalled for. Be respectful of others and you'll have a better time.

I didn't. I merely used it as an example to demonstrate the common phrasing of a device "pulling" current. On that note, though wikipedia is not by any means irrefutably accurate, it does provide a reasonable informational basis for discussion. Any qualms about its correctness can be dealt with...

I suggest reading up on how USB charging works. It's not a simple circuit. There's all kinds of sensing and negotiation going on. The host may limit the current in various ways, sometimes depending on how the device requests. Even wikipedia speaks of the device pulling current. While the...

If a choice is possible in the wizard, which desktop environment(s) the Pyra OS should ship ?

Can't really vote, since my answer would be "any one, as long as it's just one". The preinstalled stuff should be a sensible default, not a buffet you need to clear once you've picked what you want. It should provide novice users with SOME environment to work with. It should come with basic...

If a default choice is set, which desktop environment the Pyra OS should have ?

I plan on using i3 on mine. Should work with the shoulder buttons and game controls very nicely after some tweaking. That said, the default should be something approachable for newcomers. Advanced users can just install whatever they like and toss the default.
