Micro Pyra news from the.. dragons mouth

I am not excited about performance increment with future RK3568 SOC because in single-thread it will offer less performance than actual OMAP5 (at least if no audio playing being involved), but it will be a great update: -More support and drivers -Less heat and more battery life -64 bits ARM ISA...

    PinePhone with keyboard

Ok, that is a problem on other category: you receive your machine later (or simple late), but you receive it, while the problem not being supported by Linux, and having to use Android drivers, is something will be sticked with that machine probably for all its life.

    PinePhone with keyboard

Part of problem with notifications and PinePhone Keyboard is it was designes as a phone, keyboard was a much later add-on. If it would have been designed as a pocket computer, even with detachable keyboard, it could be different. On other side: it even lacks backlight in keyboard, so in some...

    PinePhone with keyboard

I suppose It's late but: I think control pad is GameSir X2 (it says when video begins but I don't understand its spoken English completely). It has USB-C connection for mobile. There is other version of GameSir X2 running by Bluetooth but it would add some input lag because of BT. Today there...

Could the pandora / pyra / or next generation model be much thinner?

On some models with 64-bit Intel Core 2 CPU you can remove IME totally: https://libreboot.org/ Of course, using 32 bit CPU old enough could be other alternative.

Could the pandora / pyra / or next generation model be much thinner?

It think there are some displays integrating wacom-like digitizer, but I will be more expensive. With tose you have capacitive touch plus precise pen use. We can see that on a lot of convertible computers and on some smartphones (for example Galaxy Note models).

Tiny living insect behind screen EDIT Solved! Thanks guys!

You could try with Raid plug repeler: https://www.amazon.co.uk/s?k=raid+plug+in You put console and plug repeler next to it. It could be insect go away... or not. For mosquitos and other insects it works good, but yours could be a different type of insect. PD: Choose the one with adequate...

Could the pandora / pyra / or next generation model be much thinner?

You are right: if bottom part is too thin it is less confortable to hold on hands while playing or typing, and use while holding (like in a Nintendo DS) is the normal way to use Pyra, it is not machine sitting on a desktop. If it would be much thin it would need other body form to be...

Could the pandora / pyra / or next generation model be much thinner?

We can have ideas but problem is MONEY and TIME, a lot of both, and we, nor ED, have those. My ideas: -Put CPU board on upper side, and use aluminiun back so it would be a big heat radiator for SOC/CPU connecting CPU to aluminum back (frame around display could be insulated from that heat...

Boring to use Linux, When BSD is up on Pyra and Pandora?

I am afraid it is very likely there was worse reason. Having biggest SBC market captured, with propietary firmware controlled by the same controlling Intel or AMD SOC. All it's about who can control your hardware without you knowing or being able to stop it. Even SOC was not only cheap but on...

Any reason to keep going? (for me, not in general)

I liked MRAM: It is as good as SRAM (Static RAM) but it is non-volatile.

I used my fingernail too with those resistive touch displays (my first one was Casio PB-1000 from 1987) but the worst part and real problem of resistive touch system is that it decrease screen clarity and adds a lot of reflections and even some rippling (if you look your face reflection on a...

Some machines could use ROM cartridges. For example for my Commodore 64/128 I have cartridges with Forth. On other side Forth interpreter/environment consumes uses very little space in ROM (and in RAM), so making a ROM chip/cartridge should not be expensive. Of course loading for tape is...

I know about Jupiter ACE. The problem was not only having a much better integrated language which normal people can´t use because it is difficult for them. It was released in 1982 with only 1KB of RAM and with monochrome graphics.. Well, it didn't had graphic mode, only text (monochrome text)...

Any reason to keep going? (for me, not in general)

About«an updated Cirrus Logic cpu»: I think this company is out of CPU market from time ago, but you can look for actual CPU/SOC from other manufacturers with lowest consumption. But don't forget CPU consumption is only one of others. For example when in sleep mode you must keep RAM power and I...

I think you are wrong, at least from my point of view you are wrong: Pyra and Psion 5 series both are pocket computers. The key difference is that Pyra is much more modern and powerful and it also include gaming controls on its case. In fact those gaming controls are not only good for gaming...

Any reason to keep going? (for me, not in general)

My "modern" smartphone from 2016 (yes, my actual Android smartphone was launched in 2016, and today, in 2022, I don't plan to buy other) takes like 40 seconds to boot so you can use it (cell signal availability takes like 10 more seconds). So yours is really "slow" or it has too much bloatware...

Now I see you misunderstood my words or I wasn't clear enough. With «access all memory» on that context I wanted to refer that in BASIC without POKE command (or similar) you can't access/write to memory, you are limited to creating BASIC programs and variables. When you can write to memory as...

You are wrong in what you say, but right on other. The OS you load/install on your computer, for example Window or Linux, is only software and you can install those OS or not, or you can install other without memory protection for process (but in general I don't see reason to do so), for...

Any reason to keep going? (for me, not in general)

I have had all pocket computers since eighties with seep mode and "instant-on" (from sleep mode), and battery lasting a lot of time (#54). In fact on some very old pocket computers batteries can last for more than a year in sleep mode and with instant-on (I think for example on some...
