    COVID-19 / Coronavirus Pandemic

When I first heard about SARS-Cov-2, I thought it was going to be another one like SARS or ebola, of the "bad news happening somewhere else" sort. But then it turned out to be way more infectious than those. For bird flu, we have had lockdowns for bird-keepers in the UK (basically have to keep...

    COVID-19 / Coronavirus Pandemic

Right, they say it needs 2 weeks to reach full effectiveness, and most people who take it are finished with the side effects within 2 weeks. I also wondered how many of the "vaccinated" people in hospital with covid only had one dose, or had their second dose less than 2 weeks ago. Most reports...

    The Lottery and Gambling Thread

When you win a little it makes you want to play more, but most likely you'll lose in the end. But then, I'm sure you knew that ;)

Should I have received my final order eMail already?

I was thinking that if they already had their place reserved, a lot of people might not be not so quick to jump on it as new customers who wanted to grab a place.

Should I have received my final order eMail already?

Is it the case that the 200 pre-pre-orders are first regardless of when they placed the pre-order, we don't actually know when they placed the pre-order, and if they took their time over it then other people could be up to 200 later in the queue than what it looks like?

This is a longshot, but... anime thread?

Maybe the writer of the subs doesn't know what "hold up" means? Context: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EvCuX-oY4_c

This is a longshot, but... anime thread?

そうですね kind of does mean "I agree", but people say it a lot and it's not as strong as the English version. It definitely doesn't mean "let's see" ;) Most of the time I reckon 行くぞ is literally "I/we will go" (with emphasis). As ClockworkCoder said, the subject is omitted.

    COVID-19 / Coronavirus Pandemic

We've probably lost some immunity to colds during the lockdown, so might be seeing worse colds than usual for a while.

Just a quick status report video

I'm not up-to-date on the state of things with USB C, but before that, yes? sometimes? inconsistently? With a computer connection, they communicated via the USB signal, but chargers tended not to (particularly as computer connection was only rated up to 500mA). Many chargers did things with...

    COVID-19 / Coronavirus Pandemic

It sounds like most people find AZ side-effects worse on the first dose, with Pfizer/Moderna side-effects worse on the second dose.

Command line help needed (All files within foldertree)

It's very common for these small Windows utilities to be closed source. A lot of the authors probably haven't thought about it that deeply. I got the impression there's a bit of "this is my project and I don't want people modfying it" feeling around. And sometimes if you ask someone to...

    COVID-19 / Coronavirus Pandemic

The vaccines are reducing the number of deaths. A lot of the people who were most likely to die of covid have been fully vaccinated now.

    COVID-19 / Coronavirus Pandemic

The people in charge seem to think that if they vaccinate everyone, using coercive means if necessary, then we can all go back to life as normal. But this might not work. Not least, a new variant could appear any time which makes a lot of people seriously ill despite the vaccine, and having more...

    COVID-19 / Coronavirus Pandemic

It seems the vaccines cause partial immunity, and somewhat reduce the chance of catching the disease and passing it on, thus contributing to some extent to reducing levels in the population. But this is really hard to measure. I have doubts about whether the effect is going to be enough, with...

    COVID-19 / Coronavirus Pandemic

My first point was, as "% of population vaccinated" goes up, "% of severe cases vaccinated" also goes up, regardless of the effectiveness of the vaccine or how they decide who gets it. My second point acknowleged that if they decide who gets the vaccine at random, 63% of population vaccinated...

    COVID-19 / Coronavirus Pandemic

I'm saying that you're not actually comparing the rate of sickness between the jabbed and the unjabbed group.

    COVID-19 / Coronavirus Pandemic

... At 0% population vaccinated, 0% of severe cases are vaccinated. And you could argue that if it's working, the values in between shouldn't be linear; but since the vaccines are being given out in order of who is most likely to get severely ill from covid, there's no reason why it shouldn't...

    COVID-19 / Coronavirus Pandemic

It doesn't make sense to compare those two numbers. If 100% of the population was vaccinated, 100% of severe hospitalized covid patients would also be vaccinated.

SD card fake/corrupt? check with f3 on slackware

That output is odd. But if the summary says 0 for "data lost", maybe it's fine? If anyone is wondering, F3 works fine on SuperZaxxon too. At one point I built a recent version in CodeBlocks, and got standalone binaries which were tiny enough to put on the NAND without concern. Think I might...

    COVID-19 / Coronavirus Pandemic

Matthew 24.4 itself "Jesus answered: “Watch out that no one deceives you." But he's specifically talking about other people claiming to be him, so that's taking it pretty far out of context.
