    The magnificent seven

Cool :) Maybe the wiki needs a bit of attention ;) https://pyra-handheld.com/wiki/index.php?title=Debian

    The magnificent seven

Sorry for being a bit off topic: Is there any plans to use the newly release Debian 9 "Stretch" instead of Debian 8 "Jesse" ? It would be nice to have more up to date libraries and things ...

    The magnificent seven

I was leaning towards a black one, but after seeing those in black, I would very much rather have it in that blue. The wine red should be very nice too.

Update regarding the cases (and some other things)

Umm, people FUNDED the development of it... Its not a finished product !

Update regarding the cases (and some other things)

I am actually very concerned when people like m@t continues to pressure for "production runs". This is clearly a very complex device both in terms of hardware and software and everything is certainly not 100% sorted. The goal should not be to "get everything ordered" (prematurely). The goal...

Quite a bit for you to read!

The Airlines are afraid of fires on the airplane. (Thanks for that Samsung ...) And Hi FaeMinx :)

Quite a bit for you to read!

I am really worried about the shipping. I fear that there might be problems shipping the Pyra with battery to South Africa. A lot of Airlines are much more strict about shipping batteries now ... :(

Quite a bit for you to read!

A bit more useless info: I just did a test on an AMD Athlon XP 2000+ (1666Mhz) with 1GB DDR333 memory (2.6 GB/s theoretical max). If I read a 700MB file repeatedly from cache (no I/O at all), I am unable to crack 150MB/s. The CPU simply isnt fast enough. I am not sure how the cpu power of...

Quite a bit for you to read!

So why cant we have a Pyra "model A" and "model B" ? "Model A" has uSD + eMMC but capped at 480Mb/s. The cpu boards for model A are ready now (fingers crossed) "Model B" has full speed eMMC and potentially no uSD. The cpu boards for model B will be ready in x months from now.

Quite a bit for you to read!

If I interpret this correctly, then 480Mb/s (SI) is theoretical max that we can get through the multiplexer. (Either uSD or eMMC). So it should be very close to the performance you would get from a GEN1 SSD in a USB2 enclosure... Edit: My math is letting me down... seems to be 57 MB/s

Quite a bit for you to read!

Just as a matter of interest. Look at the boot times for the various bus types and speeds. For random IO (which is mostly what we do), it wont matter that much, but for the guys wanting it to copy large multimedia files, it will be a big deal. The whole article is as...

    We've started to order things!

Hi all, Is there any chance to replace the USB 3 connector with a USB Type-C connector ? I have several external hard drives that have this type of connector and it is very fiddly on all of them. It seems to wear out very easily and then its becomes fiddly to get a good contact. USB type-C...

News from the meeting at GC

I got my Nokia N900 in 2010. It was a fantastic device for me, but it was hampered with too little RAM for the bloat they bestowed upon it. (256MB) I would have been very happy if I could replace it with another phone like that, but which had more RAM and a more linux friendly keyboard. Sadly...

If a default choice is set, which desktop environment the Pyra OS should have ?

Hi Guys The only environment that stands out for me in the list is minimenu. All the others we have all seen 1000 times before. Sometimes with very nice themes etc. Also as mentioned a couple of times in this thread is that it is easy to install most (if not all) of them. The only one for me...

    Rock solid battery and MicroUSB-Port

Will we have control over the charging process of the battery ? For example I would like to prevent the battery from charging more than 80% as to increase the lifespan of the battery.
