    Test the keymat!

@ClockworkCoder Thanks for the post. That was pretty comprehensive for "initial thoughts". OT: What is the keyboard in the clear case in your last photo? And what does the blank key to the left of the Enter key do? Is it just a spacer key to make it impossible to reach the Enter key...

    The magnificent seven

Amazing to see the group photo of the Seven New Prototypes. :) But they are so very ugly in black! I do hope that if we do end up with a one-colour-fits-all pyra to start off with, that it will not be that colour! The dark grey in the press kit renderings is very much nicer to look at.

If that's so, then it could at least help in narrowing down the cause(s) of the 4 GB issue.

    THE NUMBERS IMAGE THREAD!

@sm0kew0n Oh! I see you've done 1066 too? Much more erudite than mine, but I don't see an number on your Bayeux fragment. (Well, i thought I saw 946, but then I realised it was part of "prelium". [Speaking of that titulus, can one go wisely towards battle -- wouldn't the wise ones go the other...

IIUC this cannot be. My understanding (which might of course have been wrong -- sorry if it is) was that EvilDragon was waiting on the sample cases so that he could build prototypes, not only that developers would have them for working on the software, but also to accelerate the hardware...

Green AND purple! (In a mixture of case parts.) (But not the green in Kippykip's colour edits above. Needs to be a brighter green to go with purple!) But I too would settle for a black / dark grey, and the blue of the current samples would make me very happy.

    That took a while...

@EvilDragon If you have enough cases that you can risk damage to one, can you stick one in the freezer for a few hours then bang it on a hard surface. (Or, I think you mentioned that the samples you have now are of more than one compositional formula, so then one of each material.) I had a...

    THE NUMBERS IMAGE THREAD!

NS 1065. (With 1066 coming down the track...)

The hole in the back of the lid is the interface where the external chimney pot is attached to a flue that snakes through the hinge from the main body of the case to vent heat, smoke, and flames. Oh wait... that was in a nightmare about Pyras and dragons.

Best jacket (duffle or trench) for carrying technology gadgets

In Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome, Max produces quite an impressive array of hardware from inside his coat when he first enters Bartertown. Maybe you need a garment like that.

That blue is awesome! I am concerned about this [although, admittedly, I know nothing about plastics]. The plastic case of my current laptop is a light silver colour -- probably meant to look like brushed aluminium. But forward of the keyboard, where my palms and thumbs rest, the coating has...

Now I've managed to misplace the cellular modem frequencies!

Hello, I'm looking for the listing of the frequencies supported by the cellular modem in the US and European versions of the Pyra. I had previously looked at this, but neglected to save a copy. Now I'm failing to find it. :( I think I previously found this information on the main Pyra page...

    THE NUMBERS IMAGE THREAD!

Those are model numbers 1061 and 1062 of the TRS-80 Model III. (See numbers near the top of the third column.) So that serves 1061. (And if necessary it can serve for 1062.)

Potential for Linux-libre on the Pyra?

The blobs without which certain parts of the hardware don't work (or have a reduced feature set) are owned by the respective manufacturers of the hardware. Well it certainly can't hurt to ask manufacturers to Free their software. One problem is that it seems that manufacturers don't want the...

    Pyra keyboard scancodes?

Thank you for the additional insight into Pyra keyboard lore. :) To be clear, I wasn't complaining about the final keyboard layout (and it didn't sound to me like Eight Bit was either) -- just wondering about it. Anomalies spark questions in this curious mind. I wasn't here for the keyboard...

Potential for Linux-libre on the Pyra?

I feel that "very, very bad" is a bit too negative. Being totally Free (Linux-libre-Free, requiring no non-Free blobs) was not, as far as I know, ever a design goal for the Pyra, after all. By existing at all, the Pyra brings Free software to more people; that is A Good Thing. Requiring it to be...

    Pyra keyboard scancodes?

I wondered that too. And I concluded (speculated), given that all the shoulder buttons were to be right modifiers, that the bottom right was the only place remaining on the keyboard to put those two left modifiers after the "more important" keys were given their position. But maybe it's simply...

The plausibility of an E-Ink Display

Thanks for this. I mostly live in an abstract world; it's always interesting to learn something concrete. With that and taking into account the typo, everything adds up. :) That hardly deserves to be called a bus, though. More of a unicycle. Or a tandem bike, if you also count the clock line. ;)

RSS Feeds contain only (partial) first post in thread

Hey! This if fixed now! (I only just noticed; I had given up looking at the forum's RSS feeds because they were so broken.) But now I see both 1) and 2) are fixed! Thank you to whoever implemented the fix. :) Sorry. Cancel that! It's not fixed at all! :( I thought I was in my forum RSS inbox...
