    Snapdragon SoC 410E and 600E

Performance is pretty varied, it does okay on some stuff but badly on other stuff (compared to say, Cortex-A15). NEON performance is generally not very good.

    "Smach Z is Back!" ...?

And here I thought that this would be very hard to work well with active cooling, now they're saying they won't even put a fan on it. I wonder how much the whole ClickArm arrangement is setting Smach Z up for failure. They have a module supplier whom we can reasonably assume can actually...

    "Smach Z is Back!" ...?

Good point. Higher resolution may make sense for something like GPD Win but Smach Z less so. Still, there are perhaps some classes of eg 2D games that could benefit from the resolution. These days we're finally getting some really high fidelity 2D games, but I don't know if they're really that...

    "Smach Z is Back!" ...?

I can't think of any reasonable explanation, unless they think they'll sell a million and need to ramp up production capability and initial supply. ... not that that's exactly reasonable... Does anyone know the size of the display in the prototype? From what I can find on realistic LiPo...

    "Smach Z is Back!" ...?

They released a tablet under the label instead (with an included controller). Then a set-top box. I guess not enough people wanted the handheld version. Which isn't that surprising given that it wasn't very pocketable, and it ran Android which doesn't really have that great of a non-casual games...

    "Smach Z is Back!" ...?

At least they firmed up on a model number for the SoC. This is really not suitable for something like a phone or even a tablet, it's more like a laptop chip. And I mean laptops with 14"+ screens, not netbooks. The Merlin Falcon G-series lineup actually matches up pretty closely to earlier...

GPD Win (x86 Computer / Palmtop)

If they can't wire up a fan for software control chances aren't that good that could do so for a new LED :/

PGS Windows 10 gaming handheld - GPD WIN competitor

No problem, their investors agreed to cover any and all expenses. Yeah I know it's "there", just not as a first class citizen but some lesser function of another key. It is, frankly, humiliating.

PGS Windows 10 gaming handheld - GPD WIN competitor

Why you gotta keep bringing them down like this :( Maybe they'll keep changing the device until it's indistinguishable from GPD Win. Then they'll just resell GPD Wins.

PGS Windows 10 gaming handheld - GPD WIN competitor

I didn't even notice that but wow, that P location... I can just see the thought process there, let's move a single key away from the QWERTY layout and we get to make all the keys a little wider. Sounds like a great tradeoff, right? Except it'll infuriate just about anyone who tries actually...

GPD Win (x86 Computer / Palmtop)

There are USB PWM controllers, but this means making a new PCB and finding some place to mount it in a design that wasn't really meant to have extra space available for such things. This is also assuming they had extra USB ports exposed somewhere, which I kind of doubt.. otherwise they'd need to...

PGS Windows 10 gaming handheld - GPD WIN competitor

I don't understand why anyone would put arrow keys on a handheld with a dpad. At least they gave them other purposes too, unlike GPD Win.

GPD Win (x86 Computer / Palmtop)

I'm guessing they simply didn't have any software controlled PWMs exposed in a way they could connect to, and they can't very well update the PCB for this.

GPD Win (x86 Computer / Palmtop)

I was reading on Dingoonity, and a comment was posted from GPD saying that the fan can only be manually operated. So does that mean that the user presses a switch that toggles the fan between off and full RPM? If so this is a very limited design. It's going to be really annoying to have to...

If you don't occasionally wish you could take back something you said online you're probably not active enough ;)

    "Smach Z is Back!" ...?

"ClickARM" was one of those fantastically poorly thought out naming ideas.. even if they didn't have to worry about ARM defending their trademark they still have to explain to everyone that no, their technology is not specifically about using ARM SoCs.

    "Smach Z is Back!" ...?

Welcome MJPIA, I remember you from the PGS thread on NeoGAF :D For some reason I (poorly) assumed the ClickARM design was shuttered because Smach Z hasn't been mentioning it. I had no idea there were talks of being bought out by ImasD.. Maybe the GamesCom prototype was using actual custom...

    "Smach Z is Back!" ...?

Man, I really shouldn't have made that comment. I thought it was so silly/ridiculous that no one would take it seriously. I hope we don't have a serious discussion about whether or not Smach Z is paying off Curved. I don't think there's a problem with being more excited about Smach Z than GPD...

    "Smach Z is Back!" ...?

It was a joke, I hope that's cleared up now. And it was more at Smach Z's expense than the author's. If you thought I meant it does that mean you were suggesting I invite the author here so I can ask her if she accepted a bribe? Good plan :P

    "Smach Z is Back!" ...?

It's not gossiping to state an opinion about the quality of someone's work. Frankly I don't see why it matters where the author studied, trained, or what she does in her free time because I never made assumptions of or questioned any of that. I don't see what there is to ask or clarify, and I'm...
