Hi ED, a question for you... Lets say I have access to a solder pot and a skilled hardware guy (I work at an electronics firm), would dropping out the existing CPU and RAM (I presume they are BGA?) and upgrading them myself be a conceivable possibility? Or would it be just too hard to de-solder...

If no off-the-shelf products work I don't think it'd be too hard to hack some IR gear into the Pandora.
Yeap I was planning to hack the GPIO lines and maybe stick a decent ADC in it. I dunno exactly what my plans are yet but I will definitely need two decent rs232 ports.

The main problem with this device is that I can't imagine Matt Farrell pulling it out of his man-purse and hacking into satellites with it. Which is the ultimate measure of a hand-held computational device.

Hrmmm if it's gonna be too tricky I might start thinking about ripping it off and replacing it with a mini IDC header (I'm pretty sure they exist). Dunno if it'd fit or not...
