    Filesystem shootout

Of course I don't know if your card has some failing erase blocks, but my card also produced some write errors when I first started using it on the Pandora with an unaligned partition. After aligning the partitions I did not have a single message in my kernel log reganding I/O errors. And I did...

    Filesystem shootout

You are right. There is no real difference between using "dirsync" or not for I/O in large blocks. That's because it really does not do anything differently for this kind of access. So it even is not really safer to use. "dirsync" just makes a difference when you write metadata. That is...

    Filesystem shootout

I tortured my SD-card for more than 34 hours straight until it bled and screamed for merci to get a definate answer to the question: Which filesystem is best suited for the Pandora? The contenders were ext2, ext3 and ext4 and the clear winner is... ext4. You can read about the testing...

    Formatting a SD card : demystifying !

And on another note regarding partition alignment: It's really no use talking about it if you can test it yourself :-) (and see that it does make a huge difference). I compiled a small utility called "flashbench" for the Pandora. With it you can guess the erase block size of your SD-cards...

OmegaPhil: On ext2/3/4 filesystem a certain amount of space is reserved for the user root by default. This is useful to keep essential utilities (like syslog) on a regular unix system running if a user should fill the entire partition. It also keeps fragmentation low. But you can disable this at...

    Release schroot

Just added it to the Software projects page. Thanks for the advice. It seems to work really well. I just installed Iceweasel (Debian branded Firefox) with aptitude and it worked out of the box. As did mplayer with video and audio without any manual configuration.

    Release schroot

Hi. I received my Pandora this Tuesday and was missing apt-get. I looked into PanDebian, but although it is a nice project with the menu integration and easy installation, I didn't think the PND-way was the way to go for such a system utility. I couldn't start the applications on my desktop...
