Cellular Discussion [Split from] Bugs and Calculations

Just wanted to remind people that would prefer 3G than 4G that, even on 3G only networks and countries, the 4G modem will be faster as it supports a more advanced HSDPA+ (42Mbps vs 14.4Mbps, 3 times the speed), so even in those situations the 4G module would be advantageous. Plus future...

    Android 4.4/5.0 OOB?

If you just want to use Marshmallow consider installing the SDK, downloading an image through it and I'm sure there are steps to add the Google Services to one virtual device you create through it. If you still want to build from source: The Android build system is tested only on Ubuntu AFAIK...

    Android 4.4/5.0 OOB?

Right now I'm running the standard emulator (with a semi-broken 3D) and the standard vanilla Android 6.0 image built for it, are you comfortable downloading and compiling everything on Ubuntu or would you like me to upload? The generated images will be designed for an Ubuntu system but might...

Cellular Discussion [Split from] Bugs and Calculations

AFAIK no, it's a different protocol and the modem must support it, unless specified it is not compatible with both.

It's what I meant :) The only thing you'd be losing on with that combo (AFAIK) is GPS... And you'd probably have a more 'stable' phone. I'm still not entirely sure I want a modem in mine (the paranoid me...) but I'll probably take it, I like the whole phone idea :) When preorders are up I'll decide.

Cellular Discussion [Split from] Bugs and Calculations

US 4G will give you worldwide GSM, EU 4G will give you GSM on most countries (other than US, Canada and some Latin American ones). @Swordfish II: Even if you travel to the EU often, if you only want voice and text, US modem will give you that (I am sure the number of countries that have no 2G...

Then (if they allow any device on their networks) it would be interesting to see how many US people are interested in CDMA and how much that rises the modem cost.

    Bugs and Calculations

It's CDMA only. It's a CDMA hybrid, those frequencies won't be in use in GSM mode AFAIK, it adds a bunch of things for CDMA use. I seem to recall CDMA devices don't use SIM cards and are approved and identified by the carrier from the CDMA equivalent of the IMEI? If so getting CDMA isn't going...

    Bugs and Calculations

According to: http://www.seapraha.cz/download/pls8-e_hd_v01000a_tcm216-155302.pdf Page 16 The EU version has support for all GSM bands, including US versions... Can we get clarification from someone? EDIT: Sorry, misread, ignore this...

Then if you travel between the US and somewhere else consistently and you have a data plan (or plans) that gives you internet on both countries, you'll be wanting 3G. I would like to know how many prospective Pyra buyers are in this position, as I'd very much like faster 3G and LTE tbh...

    Bugs and Calculations

If you want Voice, messages and 90s data speeds, US LTE will get you that worldwide. If you want faster speed worldwide you'll want the 3G, but I feel like such people might be a niche in a niche (?). If fast data, voice and SMS reliably is really a must for you and/or your job, you should...

AFAIK PLS8-X supports a few more frequencies (but none EU), maybe a latin American or CDMA hybrid? PLS8-V is CDMA. I think... For both...

    Bugs and Calculations

I'll start this post by saying I have no idea what I'm talking about, all this is from the spec sheets... As per the spec sheet, yes. As per the spec sheets: 3G modem is limited at 14.4Mbps on HSDPA 4G modem is limited at 100Mbps on LTE and 42Mbps on HSDPA+ (so even on 3G-only networks and...

    Android 4.4/5.0 OOB?

Hi, sorry for taking so long to respond, I'm very busy with uni deadlines and work Sounds perfect, thanks Grench, hopefully that lets us run the emulator before all units ship. When I hear prototypes start shipping and I'm over this uni workload I'll figure something out with you :) Hi...
