    Rainy Day - Game Project

Yup! Will make those changes over the weekend. And work a bit on the big blue monster (that you can only kill with the magic umbrella colour projectile :) ).

    Rainy Day - Game Project

Just sent the level art for the next alpha demo (which will show off the core gameplay) over to Dragons_Slayer. Will be finishing more monster art/animation soon. :)

    Rainy Day - Game Project

Intro isn't vital to the gameplay. I would like to have it done for the vertical slice, but my time is better spent on creating the level art for the "gameplay demo" - let's call it that way, which would show off the full colour-picking based gameplay. I could for example also create the larger...

Even if it was allowed by the rules, I somehow wouldn't think of it as being fair to enter the competion with an existing demo, especially since it already won in a prior competion. And given the fact that I can currently not turn as much content as I could during the run up to the Alpha...

    Rainy Day - Game Project

Wow! Just heard the news about Rainy Day being featured on television. Never expected that from our humble little project! :D Been a bit out of the loop recently, work and life being busy and all, but I've been working on some bits and pieces. Doing some concepting for the Rainy Day intro...

    Rainy Day - Game Project

Currently juggling some other (unrelated) projects as well as having a busy time at work, so that's why art output has been low on my side recently. But I did do some sketching for the intro story sequence. Will work on that soon (after creating some more GUI stuff to accomodate the color-...

Actually the way I did the graphics, is by painting them several sizes bigger (in Photoshop), scaled them down to the sprite size, and then removed the "fuzzy" aliased edge in a pixel-painting program (Graphics Gale). Generally I do a slight smart sharpen on the sprites after resizing them, so...

    Rainy Day - Game Project

Finishing up the yellow "jellyfish", probably needs an extra frame for when it's hit by the umbrella. Will be working on the third "basic" enemy next: the red spikey one. Doing the animations in Flash now (still painting them in Photoshop), so that's a bit easier and quicker. To round off the...

    Rainy Day - Game Project

I don't know the exact file structure of a .pnd, but I guess it's not much different from the Windows version, in which we have an Images folder containing all sprites, level pieces, etc... as .png images. Really simple to identify and tweak. :)

    Rainy Day - Game Project

I'm not a big fan of altering the design/style just for the (relatively small group) of colour blind people out there. That may sound harsh, but the changes would be far to far reaching and intensive in my art designs. I mean, how many games are out there using color-coded keycards and doors...

Done some more work on level art components this evening, but will be working on the new color-gameplay monsters very soon :)

    Rainy Day - Game Project

Approved! Dragons_Slayer's design for the puzzle-element is quite elegant and simple, yet challenging to the player. Best of all, not a tremendous amount of extra art assets are needed for it, just the way the art monkey likes it! :-D By the way, thank you all for the votes on Rainy Day...

    Rainy Day - Game Project

One of the important reasons that Rainy Day will be a fairly small game in the end (think of the old shareware titles from back in the mid nineties as for the lenght of it) is that level design is art-based. So instead of piecing together a level from a tileset, the levels are actually giant...

    Rainy Day - Game Project

Demo next week is perhaps a bit optimistic. While the graphics for the (tiny) playtest level area are coming together nicely, there's still loads of random little stuff to wrap up before we have the (playable) alpha demo ready. I think a safer estimate would be the END of next week, or perhaps...
