-is anyone aware of the rick dangerous port for gp32 - I'm awaiting my gp32 but just want to make sure of a few things:-

Is it essential to upgrade the bios - eg, does everything run the same using the standard bios with the freelauncher as I'd rather wait for a later update before risking my bios several times?

How long does it take to load wind ups through the free launcher - as some of you have it integrated into the bios - does really take long to load up?

Does the mp3 player have a control lock- eg, Can I walk down the street and listen to mp3s on it with the gp32 in my pocket without my body pushing against the buttons(oooh!)?

Can files be deleted on the gp32 within the guis etc?

What file formats does moviepark support?

With the gp32 having a USB port - the scope for so much functionality is endless(plug in keyboards/monitors/digital cameras/printers/ps2?) etc

Is it essential to upgrade the bios?

no, not at all. its more for experimental fun :)

you'll spend 30 seconds going thru the menus to launch Windups via free launcher. I stuck it on as my firmware this morning, 1 second and its on the screen :)

Does the mp3 player have a control lock?

not afaik. Does anyone seriously use the feature? I know I never will.

Can files be deleted on the gp32 within the guis etc?

Yes.

What file formats does moviepark support?

Divx 4 only.

Yes, it is endless. In order -
Keyboard, proberly in dev. usefulness? little.

Monitors, i've never seen a USB monitor but I suppose it could be useful.

Digital Cameras - feel like developing a GP32 driver for each brand of camera by scratch? I doubt this happens.

Printers - why...

PS2 - again, why..

Control lock in mp3 player - actually there is an option to lock mp32 player, so you dont have to worry about pushing buttons during walking :)

Thanks for answering --

USB Hard drive would be a great idea! - but think of this(I'm just trying to get ideas rolling)

USB Splitter cable - many usb ports are available -

-Plug in a usb hard drive/monitor/keyboard - you've got yourself a GP32 homestation - if the gp32 could utilise the hard drive. Then just whack the smart card for when your on the move. oh and a USB modem - to download the stuff on to your usb hard drive. --and a web browser - what the hell - why not get a mouse in there.

I know this isn't realistic but surely there is a good idea in there somewhere?

Lol while computers are getting smaller and more portable we want to make our handhelds bigger and less portable

its a bit far-fetched but some people maybe interested - personally am Not that bothered - but a usb hard drive\cd-rom could become v-useful espeically for creating large games.

Creating a game for a niche audience, then seperating it into a niche within a niche wouldn't be to bright. I thought the USB HD would be better for MP3 Playback / Divx.

The only real advantage to a hard drive for a portable console that I can see is the lower cost for the media. I dunno why SMC's are so expensive...I assume it's either because they're small/modern devices, patented/copyrighted, or both. As I said in another thread earlier, 128mb max is a lot for a portable console or a non-cd based console. Not even Neo Geo carts go up to 128mb (well, some dumps do I think, but they shouldn't). I think the largest cart you're gonna find on any console is about 512m/64mb.

Just feel sorry for the GBA flash cart owners and enjoy what exists already...that's my plan :) addon storage devices would be nice, but unnessecary. How expensive are Flash ROMs and EEPROMs anyway? Too expensive probably...

"enjoy what exists already" ?????

hey dude, imagine if gamepark had the same philosophy ? what would you be playing right now ? :D

128Mo is too small for storing purpose,
and having many cards is sure less convenient than one little device,

really, compactflash would be a better choice: same price, bigger capacity ..too bad :p
any other device could be very useful : to store videos, games, emulators for end users, (imagine my own MP3 collection weight 5Go :D )

and to store thousands of useful things, versions, and utilities for devs :D

we put HDDs on big consoles (xbox, ps2) who don't really deserve it , it's time to put some on hand held :D

fishing device is unnecessary, storage device can not ;)

Somehow I don't think the USB port on the GP32 has enough power to run an entire HD to itself...come to think of it, does it have any power at all? The link cable gets the power from the PC, so...

you mean electric power ?

of course it have not!!
classical HDD runs with 12+5 volt :D
you have to think wider ;)
HDD is just an options, we have little 2 1/2 HDDs for mobile computers (i don't know their consumption but it must be more than 3V, anyway it's better for external batteries than big ide drives) or compactflash, for 1Go at 3.3v but it's 600€ :D
you can buy 3 GP32 with it :D

i wonder what kind of drives are using these mp3 players like creative jukebox etc ??
