I'm starting to think that realone player is responsible for problems I've had with my SMC/multicard reader.

I have a PQI multicard reader and a 128Mb generic SMC.

At home I have no problems with them.

At work I've got realone player installed for playing CD's and listening to radio(not through choice its just easy) and my SMC frequently has a spaz attack and wipes itself.

This is only happening when realone player is installed.

has anyone else noticed this?

I dont have any of that bumf in my tray.

The only way to prevent it destroying my SMC is to close it down.

I've never liked the prog its evil. But I like live365 without browser popups.

Try getting rid of RealONE and replacing it with Media Player Classic and Real Alternative (basically an open source alternative to the real codec minus a load of the gubbins) - it's been working brilliantly for me.

That is assuming it is the problem; it could just be that your SMC likes having spaz attacks (mine's done so a few times...)

hey thanks for the note about Real Alternative - i'd never heard of it and i'm getting it now. they also have an alternative to QuickTime as well - i hate both RealPlayer and QuickTime so it would be great to get them off the PC - cheers

Tobriand - Thanks very much for the tip - I've been wanting to get rid of the most insidious piece of s/w ever - now I can. It works great with BBC "listen again".

on a side note winamp and the mmd3 skin is highly recommended as a media player

I used to listen to live365 through realone but have since found you can get adfree radio through shoutcast.com in winamp and it looks so cool with that skin.
