Okay I LOVE bubble bobble, so, if someone is willing to code it, i'll do some hefty donkey work (i'm talking about rico tutorial format sprite rips)

anyone is welcome to comment on this thread, probably except anyone who's already tied up in the original community game... i don't wanna nick Animefreak's workers.

this is not to be a straight conversion... think more a humorous style like 'gba killer'

anyone interested (even if we can't get a coder now, if we get everything else sorted (maps, sprites, music, splashscreens, etc... maybe it'll be more likely to be picked up...)... anyone?

I share your feelings for that great game, and I was hoping fMAME will support it.

But a comunity game would be brilliant! I'm not much of a coder, but i'll happly help in sound or any little jobs that you will have.

They have Bubble bobble 1 and 2 on NES and little john runs both of them nicely. But if you want something other than those, then I wish you good luck. Even though Bubble Bobble is addictive fun, i don't think it was that popular that many people are going to want to code the entire game again to spice it up a bit.

The NES version of Bubble Bobble is decent and the SMS version is pretty close to the arcade. The NES version of Bubble Bobble II is pretty good. There is also fMAME, which might support it but does not have sound (yet).
I believe if the programming time goes to those emus it will be definitely more productive. :)

have you ever played bubble memories? ;) i want a year-2003 32-bit version not some shitty emulated SEGA-BLOODY-MASTER SYSTEM version... sheesh!

and i wouldn't like to take coders away from the emulator projects either...

hey, shaking spirit, can you do .mod files?

i like the nes buble bobble two :) it'll do for now... but we need an update... and the atari ST version isn't good enough, either...

maybe we should do all the donkey-work first and just see...

okay, it's to be a program called 'gpBubble' donationware -
(50% to coder, rest shared out)) - or maybe copyright restrictions will enforce freeware status

with player sprites ripped from bubble bobble
gameplay almost the same as bubble memories (i.e. by ver.2.0 big bubbles implemented))

and baddies ripped from other famous games through the ages

the levels to be the ones from original bubble bobble (remember 'popcorn' level)
plus some levels of our own (maybe 50% making 200 levels in all)
should be easy to do on the gp32 mapmaking thingy

i'll do donkey work - i.e. spriteripping (which i've heard is a hassle)
someone will do the music (funkified remixes of original bubble bobble tune))
sound effects should be easy
someone will go to work converting original bubble bobble levels to gp32 format
and we'll all have a go making our own levels

but as i gathered from original community project, getting a coder is difficult (i can't even set up dev environment)

ver:-

0.01 - 1 level, moveable player
0.02 - 1 level, moveable player, bubbles
0.05 - 1 level, moveable player, bubbles, baddies, finished level message
0.1 - 10 levels, moveable player, bubbles, 3 different baddies, and bubblegum weapon added
0.2 - same as 0.1 but splash screens added - first public release

and we'll work on from there hopefully ending up with a full game by ver 1.0

and ver 2.0 will have rf 2-player support added

sound good/feasible?

What the hell is wrong with the Master System version? Its exactly the same to the arcade in almost every way, and the Master System emulator is perfect at emulating it.

Seems like a bit of a wasted effort to me.

swiss cheeseman... go away and play bubble memories on mame and then come back and tell us if the master system version is any good...

thankyou for all your comments :)

I'm just a bit of a nostalgia fan.

A game that I would like to see a remake of is Ballon Fight, as that would make a kickass linkup game. The original NES version was pretty flawed in my opinion, so it would be a great game to improve upon.

I just reckon Bubble Bobble is perfect the way it is.

Balloon fight... was that also known a Joust?

if it's the game i'm thinking of, it *would* make a great linkup game... if only i had someone to link up with... here's hoping that internet play thing comes together... :)

I've been playing around with .mods and i've actually come up with a tune that sounds remotely like the Bubble Bobble theme :) Now for the "jazzing up".

o_O money... ;) Well actually what I needed explaning is how/what bubble bobble is (and I'm not going to dl and illegal rom to see so you have to explain) :) Oh, and if I do code/help code it, I can't do RF cuz I have only one GP32 :|

damn Rcx you'd have to play it to 'get' it...

it's a side-on non-scrolling old-school platformer/bubble 'em up.

that any help?

try the shareware ver... (must try that myself))...
