I've got an LG phone power supply that according to the wiki has the same type of socket as the GP2X, it says 'Input - 100 - 240v, 150 - 100 mA', would I be able to use this with my GP2X or would it end up frying the unit?

I've managed to find a pinout of the charger here, not sure if it's just the data cable, but on the list it's the only one without 'for data/flash cable only' beside it so it should have the connections for the power on it too

wtf!!? :p i too have an LG phone PSU, and after reading this I just tried to put it into the GP2X a few minutes ago too see if it would fit (without having the batteries in). However, the power switch was turned on. Imagine my surprise when the unit started too boot up!?? The PSU is 4.6 V, 800 mA.
How is this possible?? It just booted right off from the EXT-port! I knew this was supposed to be possible, but I thought there had to be some fiddling to make it work.
Is it any dangerous for me to use this LG Phone PSU as a PSU for the GP2X?
I'd appreciate answers, since my newly bought multi-PSU hasn't got the right end plug :(

Cheers!

So does it work okay? This saves me having to use my recharchable batteries except for on long car rides :p

I recieved my GP2X about half an hour ago, had it plugged into my LG charger for the past 2-3 minutes and it seems fine, it seem to be providing the right amount of power for it at least..

Looks like I won't be needing an additional PSU then ;)

I've tried running a NES emulator under the power supply, no problems at all. Can't really try movies since I only have a 128mb sd card for now..

Yes, movies work flawlessly. Everything seems to work fine :). However, are the colors less bright and "colory" when using the LG Phone PSU in the EXT-port, or am I imagining?

edit: The power on/off-slide doesn't work at all when using this EXT PSU  . No matter what position the slide is in, the GP2X will power on if the PSU is plugged into the wall. However, this doesn't really matter, since you can always turn it off by unplugging the EXT PSU.

I think people should be careful about plugging these LG chargers in. Maybe not all LG chargers will work? I have two of the latest LG phones here and both are rated at 5.2V which would probably be too much for the poor little gp2x as it only wants 3V. They are 800mA though so it would be enough current. They are for the LGP7200 and the LGS5200. I'm scared to try it on my gp2x! Not sure what the charger for that new LG choc whatever phone is - I should be getting one soon - so maybe I'll try the charger for that if it looks promising.
Which LG model's chargers have you guys tried that worked? Yours were only 4v right?

Not quite that model though... I have this one:
http://www.mobique.com/_images/lg/u880/U880-salespackage.jpg
(upper right corner)

The text on it says:

"LG Travel Adapter
Model:TA-25GR3
Input:100-240V
50/60Hz 150-100mA
Output:4.6V--800mA"

Can't find any other info though...

Anyone who doesn't think it safe to use it still?

edit: This adapter is for the LG U880 mobile phone as you can see on the image..

I have the same charger as you Shaddac, that's probably why both of ours work

I wouldn't trust it tho. Never a good idea to play around with PSU's not meant for a $190 machine.

Well I've been using it constantly for over 5 hours and the only side effect is it getting warm to the touch, but I have yet to see my GP2X blowing up so I'm fine with it ;)
