Possible To Connect An Ipod?

Interesting :) Could look hopeful, I was about to try it and was ready, until I realised I lack the cabling to plug my ipod into my gp2x -_-

I always thought Ipods didn't show up as mass storage things?

They basically have two modes when you hook them up to a computer. One is disc mode, where they show up as your common hard drive. The other has them show up in itunes for the putting in of music and such.

If I connect my ipod to the gp2x, I see that the gp2x can 'see' the ipod.

# cat /proc/scsi/scsi
Attached devices:
Host: scsi0 Channel: 00 Id: 00 Lun: 00
Vendor: Apple Model: iPod Rev: 1.53
Type: Direct-Access ANSI SCSI revision: 02[/b]

in /dev/ folder I only have the following:
sd sda sda1

when I use fdisk to show the partitions:
# fdisk /dev/sda

The number of cylinders for this disk is set to 3647.
There is nothing wrong with that, but this is larger than 1024,
and could in certain setups cause problems with:
1) software that runs at boot time (e.g., old versions of LILO)
2) booting and partitioning software from other OSs
(e.g., DOS FDISK, OS/2 FDISK)

Command (m for help): p

Disk /dev/sda: 255 heads, 63 sectors, 3647 cylinders
Units = cylinders of 16065 * 512 bytes

Device Boot Start End Blocks Id System
/dev/sda2 * 6 3647 29254365 b Win95 FAT32

If you take a look at this website:
http://www.cs.duke.edu/~geha/ipod/
at number 8 you'll that there is also a /dev/sda1, well.. on the gp2x I don't have that...

and if you take a look at this website:
http://ipodlinux.org/Mounting_on_Linux
they're saying that you need to have SBP-2 support. Well.. I have no clue what that is .. maybe that's missing and that's why it won't work.

Hmm, if I think about it more I only had the 3 paritions because I had linux on the iPod itself... so I think sda2 would be the one you want to use for filestorage.. if you can get there atall.

Hmm, you could try the following to mount it, and hope that it works, but I think it would have given a more specific error before if it were to help:

Code:
mount -t vfat /dev/sda2 /mnt/ext

Or if you wanted to make sure it wasn't a problem with /mnt/ext, just "mkdir /mnt/ipod" "mount -t vfat /dev/sda2 /mnt/ipod".

I tried it already, but it will just say that that folder doesn't exist. See my previous post:
in /dev/ folder I only have the following:
sd sda sda1

and the funny thing is that sda2 appears in fdisk (^^ see previous post)

what does the output from dmesg say when you plug the ipod in? it should recognize the block devices. Also any chance you could post a howto on constructing the cable? cheers

dmesg? what's that? :)

A howto you say.. hmm, I busy finishing a school project at the moment, and after that I'm going on vacation... I basicly used the wiki site, looked up the USB pinout and constructed a external 5V source. I don't know what past experiences you have with electronics... But is you have a more concrete question/problem I'm happy to answer that

Skikaku:
haha epinis
