Yet again there has been an article on a news site which looks like it has been researched from one bad source:

http://www.trustedreviews.com/article.aspx?art=2873

Yet again Protx is the manufacturer and yet again it can play wmv files.

Although we shouldn't treat them too harshly, at least they have the rest of the info reasonably intact, and they show the GP2X in a good light, even if it is the wrong one.

EDIT: I think my post's title is rather harsh, if any mod wants to change (If that's possible) it to something like: "More GP2X coverage, still a bit flakey"
Or even, if you want "I am a harsh, flaming idiot who posts anal things about GP2X coverage!"

They said they're going to fix it soon, and I just realised it says it plays WMV and "AC3" on Gbax.com!

EDIT: This is a link to the picture the editor sent me:

what assholes. since when does real journalism end at loading up a page and copying everything it says without even reading it?

Whats the problem ? It is an upbeat, positive article about the GP2X with a couple of errors in it. If they had actually done any research, like actually use one, it would have just been another list of criticisms about the poor battery life, slow boot time, crappy joystick and eyestraining scan lines.

The problem is I feel insulted by their statement that GPH have churned out what the developers of the scene (including myself) have done for free. Had they done even a tiny bit of research, they would of realised that it's the thriving community that powers the GP2X, not the company behind it.

Eh, could have been worse, the thing I like the most is that no comments are allowed on that news post :D.

I am starting to think I shouldn't trust web reviews, :).

I really only read the ones that fully test stuff, IE, get one in their hands, are well informed, and try their best to make it work right.

I read TomsHardware.com for PC parts, I read here for GP2X, I don't like people who read one small paragraph, or single page review and become "experts" on stuff.

I have been reading this forum, and the MMSP2 and MagicEyes technical documents voraciously since I pre-ordered my GP2X in October last year.

I also read the PDF on the USB 2.0 Slave and TV-Output chips, I like to be fully informed.

Sorry, I got the impression that they felt Protx (Gbax.co.uk??) built and made the software, wow, a lot of badly informed people, I surely wish that they would be pointed to the forums and Wiki instead of Gbax and the archives for information.

Not to say it isn't entirely correct to send them to Gbax(gp2x.co.uk) for purchasing, just better that they fully understand where the scene is at for the english-speaking people.

And no I don't mean http://scene-gp2x.elite.haxorz.info, I hate that crap, just regurgitating some of the stuff off of these forums does not a scene make.

I fully agree with your research comment though.

I hate to say it, but I don't get what your whinging about. I never expect to see a decent review. The reviews of late have got more and more upbeat about the GP2X. Its not factually accurate, but for the main. Its not factually acurate in a positive way. It beats the early stuff which are all DaveC quotes.

The harsh reality is the GP2X is a hard review. People know what a DS is or a PSP, what the hell is a GP2X. Have a look at Digg http://digg.com/gaming/PlayStation_X_Porta...e_GP2X_(Videos) its not what they are saying is wrong most of the time. Its just not...true.

You can't tell people what fun its been, to see the product move from well, poor to quite a tidy product and it still gets better, or to see an emulator go from 0.5 to 0.6 and shave a few critical fps of an emulator, or have someone you can talk to (as much as you can) about their little game project. One of my friends is down as a beta testers for a game and he's proud. Or tell someone what it like to rekindle their youth with some old arcade game. Or what its like to scour the Dev section, and evesdrop on IRC for the next up and coming project. Its a little bit different, and a little fun. You own a GP2X you *belong* to something.

So in the end all reviews are going to compare it to a PSP/DS, mention a few specs, mention linux, and say movies, no real commercial gaming, talk about its movie/music playing and give it a thumbs up, thumbs down based on how much they like the psp/ds

The good/bad thing about the WWW is anyone can voice their opinion on anything. It's just a case of determining how trustworthy the information is. Obviously some people are fooled by the name of the site.

Anyway, I'm just off to post my review at www.noseriouslyyoucanreallytrustthisreview.com.
