Why Wont My Firmware Upgrade???

I thought so... Everything worked perfectly when I did it the first time, so I have no idea about unbricking and stuff. This is as much as I could help...

I hope you find a way to get everything worked out soon. Maybe I think of something meanwhile, I'll let you know if I know something new :)

BTW Can't a firmware upgrade be overwritten?

Nope, the only thing it changes is the firmware number on the green loading screen, everything else is the same!!!

That means you have updated your firmware. Now you want to update the mnenu apps. To do that you need to have gp2xpatch-1.4.0.gpu and gp2xpatch-1.4.0.tar.gz in the root directory of your SD card, and then run gp2xpatch-1.4.0.gpu via the utilities section of the menu.

I HAVE DONE THAT!!! Its still version 1.0.1!!!! There is no LCD option, the menus still only move from left to right, I've upgraded the firmware the normal everyday way, my SD is compatible, but it just WONT upgrade!!!

Done that, done all that, nowt works - I GIVE UP!!! *Throws GP2X in the trash*

Call up the place you got it from and see if they can help you.

Chances are that any one with a JTAG cable can reflash it for you.

I am surprised that Rob's standalone flasher didn't work though.

Ok heres what I just done, I purchased another SD card (Sandisk 128mb) re-flashed my GP2X to 1.0.1 (again) - added the 101file patch. Then I tried flashing again to 1.4.0, loading screen now says 1.4.0 - ran the 1.40 patch - switched off, on again...says firmware version 1.4.0 BUT no physical change, unable to change clock speed in movie player, NAND and SD card are still the other way around, no LCD option under settings and yes its STILL on version 1.0.1 firmware!!!!

Sorry to have tried to pushed you to do everything from the begining, but that was just to be sure !
You really got a strange behavior from your Gp2X, subzero.
Perhaps your unit is some way stuck in a read only filesystem.
If any of the things you've done works, perhaps you should send it back to have a new unit.
Being unable to upgrade your firmware is a major problem (as the 2.0 Fw is about to be released).

EDIT : Have you tried to upgrade to a different filesystem (CramFS or Open2X ?)

I havent tried upgrading to a different file system, is it safe and how would I do it??

It's done the same way than the Fw update.
It's also safe as the Fw updates. Just take care to have fresh batteries or AC adaptator.
And read the text files that comes with the package.
There's many topics on this forum for those two systems.

YAY!!!!

Tried a new filesystem, not only did it work but it also looks a lot better :)

Thanks to everyone for their help and advice :)
