Assuming that the XGPs could run unsigned code (and in a similar way to the GP2X) which one would you support? Would any of you be willing to port your 2X work to them?

It would have to be tested first. There's a lot of devices out there with 3D support that really suck at 2D (and a lot that are good at both).

Hmmm, I was going to use the Gizmondo as an example of a device that sucks at 2D, but that kinda sucks at everything :D

EDIT: Must say though, The Giz's control stick is better than the standard GP2X one! (my 2X has real difficulty in registering a 'down' direction - you have to push it all the way for it to register :()

You may want to check if the cap is hitting the casing which happens on a few units. I would honestly wait till the unit came out first and see how easy development is on the unit.

I'm sure they will have a development environment out already. We probably just have to ask politely if we can have it.

I'd like to see a developers spec sheet of the product to be honest.

If people want, I can have a small letter translated to Korean asking for an SDK.

I think everybody is taking a "wait and see" approach to these new devices, since as far as I know they don't even exist yet.

I'm sure we're all eager to follow another round of ports of the exact same stuff as the gp2x.

Have Gamepark said when the release date will be yet? or could the mini be vaporware?

Someone mentioned September in the locked thread, but I'll believe it when I see it ;)

The more I look at the Mini though, the more I think it's a bit *too* small... OpenGL-ES support is all well and good, but it wouldn't be too much fun on a screen that tiny.

The gameboy micro had a 2" screen and the mini is 2.2".

I was comfitable using the micro. It was fun to play, but the experiance was deluted compated to playing it on a real gba. I'll buy one if most of the major system are emulated on it.

I HOPE it is vaporware  Actually they said comming near fall.

Does this mean no more GP2X stuff when the mini comes out :(

That would be a bummer as it will be hard to play Megadrive on such a tiny screen.

These new systems are going to fragment development so much. Still don't see what everyone likes about tiny screens and hard to get batteries ;) Oh well.

Providing it's fairly easy to port GP2X apps over to the XGP (and it should be - same architecture, same OS, etc.) then I expect most apps will be released on both platforms.

However, I prefer the Mini to the XGP and the GP2X to both.

Didn't they say that the wifi on the xgp would connect only to their special service available in Korea or something?

I heard that somewhere anyway, I don't think I'm making it up...

You are confused with wibro, wich is a korean wireless broadband network.
The xgp fetures both, wifi and wibro.
And the xgp mini naither.

Whoops, I didn't actually mean mini, edited...

And thanks for letting me know I'm not entirely crazy, at least :D

quick answer: no.
I bought a gp2x and I plan on supporting it. I don't have enough money or time to support both. However, if someone wishes to do a GOOD port of my work and gives me credit for it I would not mind giving them my source code (be warned: it's ugly!)

I already got lost on the stuff what GP2x already has.

Then you should not play on such a tiny screen. You aren't a masochist, are you? :)

That's really a classic from you now. ;)

If the Mini comes out at around $150 (the $300 for the regular is a bit to much for me) and has an open SDK, I will be picking one up for sure!
A handheld with open 3D API - now that would be kickass to develop for, I've got tons of stuff I'd want to try on it.
