System Fan Q

My ThermalTake Case came with 3 System Fans... 2 of them and a connector that can connect to the motherboards System Fan connectors as well as a Standard 12volt connector (Eg them connectors used for IDE harddrives and Disc Drives) BUT they only have 1 Yellow wire running to them from the fan....

Does this mean I need to connect the Fans to the 12volt Connectors and the System Fan connector to the mother board

OR

Can I just connect the System Fan connector on its own?

SATA HDD Q

My Sata HDD (Western Digital) has 2 Power inputs, One for a SATA Power connector and one for Normal connect (Like used on IDE Hard Drives etc)... Does this mean I can use either or do you need to use both???

Thanks :)

SATA drives have their own power cable that is much smaller. assuming that you're using SATA for transfer, you will only need to hook up the little data and power cables. both have flat plugs and tiny pins. no molex or anything.

..... my Western Digital has that Molex connector as well... Im guessing its just their for incase you dont have a PSU with SATA connections on it...

Only ever connect up one of the power inputs for sata drives. Connecting up both can damage the drive.

It's up to you which you use though - if your psu only has molex, then it's pointless going out and buying a sata power connection convertor just to use the other socket.

For you fan, connect the fan with the 3 wires to the motherboard, and the rest to your standard molex-type connectors.

Only thing is, The Fan only has one wire comming from it....

My PSU has the SATA power connectors so I just used that.. I already connected the SATA connector on its own, but I was Just checking as SATA is new to me and I didnt know if both needed to be connected or not :)

thanks

The only fans I know with a single wire coming from them are broken ones :)

Or do you mean it has a molex connector connector for power in addition to the single wire on a 3-pin connector? If so, that seems quite strange. No need to connect it to the motherboard though in that case unless you want the mobo to monitor the fan speed.

Yea, read the manual and the single wire connector is for Fan Monitoring and the Molex is for Power :)
