che cosa did you format the sd card with? if you have a card reader you should just use that and save yourself the trouble. otherwise you can check the wiki as there's more than one solution:

http://wiki.gp2x.org

it's not your gp2x which is the problems, all the gp2xs nel tutto mondo do it.

I'm not sure why it wouldn't work, but...does it really matter? From what I've heard, it's MUCH faster to use a card reader than to put things on your '2x via USB.

yep its true, its faster judging from the downloading times of the gp2x of a friend of mine, moreover, everything i put there works fine with the console...
its still a pain in the a$$ using the reader each time

i was worried about the console itself..

i used another USB cable from my mp3 reader, and windows gave me a ..."different" error

Yes, no problem ... you can even go back if you don't like it ;)

if you happened to flash theoddbot's "fast boot" cramfs firmware, then the console should work over usb from the moment you turn on the unit.

Solstar, the USB connection has/had faults; the firmware for the USB has/had faults, so Windows saw a device when the GP2x was connected to it, but couldn't make it work. This is a firmware issue (there are workarounds). The other reason people had issues was that sometimes the USB was badly soldered, so was impossible to work. If the latest firmware doesn't resolve your issue, you might like to open the GP2x and check (visually) that the USB connections are soldered correctly, if they aren't, either return your unit, or re-solder the parts yourself.
