Hello, I am a GP2X newbie.

I have looked at other posts but not found a problem exactly like mine so here goes.

The GP2x with SD card does not appear in windows. If I look under hardware devices settings and stuff it has a USB "mass storage device" listed, with a red exclamation mark error. And a message if I remember correctly "device could not start error code 10" (or something like that).

I tried in linux and that recognised it and I can view stuff on the card but copying files to it doesn't work, all files come up as zero bytes.

Before doing all that I formatted the card to fat32 with it in my digital camera in windows. And this is the only way I can copy stuff to it, with it in the camera.

How can I get it to work by directly connecting the gp2x?

Also, unrelated, but I tried to update the firmware to the latest from the official site. Seems to have worked, I get the extra "lcd options" menu, and in "info" it says the new version number 1.4.0. But on boot I the "loading" screen has the old version number. Is this a problem?

Thanks.

P.s. Can anyone reccommend their favourite freeware gp2x games?

Edit: P.P.S What's "flashing"? Should I have not updated my firmware on batteries?

This is pretty much exactly the same problem everyone else has :p

Some common recommendations -- use a USB1 hub instead of USB2; I'd suggest ussing a card writer (so the GP2x is outside of the equation), since they're both very cheap (I got mine for $15CDN years ago) and fast as heck. More to point, they work around god only knows what GPH is doing for an SD driver, since if they just used the standard Linux ones they'd be fine :)

But do search, siunce this is the 6000th post about this :)

Hi, 'X', another newbie here, hoping to make you feel at ease.
I've had the same problems as you with USB, and scoured the forums for several nights, trying workarounds, downloading .dll's and all sorts o' shit, pluging in and out etc., believe me, the handiest option is the card reader. A multi would be best as you can use it for so much more than just the console ('JUST' ?????). I got one here in Ireland for about 45 euro('bout 54 $US), and we're shafted big time with V.A.T.
The firmware thing is not a problem. Same thing happened me, no worries !!
And, as long as your batteries are newly and fully charged, updating or 'flashing' is ok, and shouldn't be a problem.
One of the best game emulators I use is the sega one, I think it's 'drmx'(?)
and for Snes games, try 'squidgesnes'. Roms cannot be linked or advertised for legal reasons. Hope I done some good !
