I went and bought a Monster Charger and 1.2v 1850 MaH batteries, which is the best I could do in my area on short notice.

The battery life seems really short, I know I can get higer rated batteries, but damn it's pretty bad in it's current state.

Anyone know what we can expect once the firmware has been fixed for this issue.

How fast are you charging your batteries? The first charge should be a slow one (at least few hours) and really fast charging (the "15 minutes charging") isn't optimal. I'm using the common and cheap GP NiMH batteries and are giving me decent time (around 3 hours not overclocked) but needs several hours of loading. So I have 4 pairs of them and charger what accept four AA at once.

More info (worth reading) can be found here.

Firmware upgrades will improve power efficiency of gp2x but don't expect miracles. You need properly cared batteries first. If you are doing everything ok then you propably have not so good batteries. The mAh rating can be deceiving - it's only one of parameters, the voltage discarge curve being the second. Without knowing both it's really impossible to tell how good battery is.

Unfortunate manufactures rarely (if at all) are giving such informations...

Ah I would just forget - my GP have "2100" on them but there is small print too and it's saying they are really 2050 at average. So you see that "honesty" has different meanings depending on who you deal with.

I slow charged them, I also have another pair that gave me better results, btu I dont have the specs on them offhand.

I'm not expecting miracles, I'm just expecting better than what it's doing now, and with things turned down when they aren't needed, I'm sure the life will improve.

Thanks for the info.

he may want to but he shouldnt have to.....the batteries should be lasting nearly as long as GPH stated. They didnt mention only the highest capacity batteries would last for a decent time.

Companies always give battery life reading for the best batteries. According to GPH they used 2850mAh batteries.

Yep and this is so bad but every company it's doing it (misleading). For batteries there should not only be the mAh rating but also how the voltage is changing with discharge level. This is important because after all it's an energy capacity what counts not just electric current. So there (paradoxically) can be battery with lower mAh but with much more better voltage curve and in the effect better perfomance.

Here's a tip, don't buy cheap 2800 mAh batteries on ebay from Hong Kong companies, they are crap, I learned the hard way. I charged em up and they dont even last an hour.
