Can The Gp2x Fully Utilise A 150x Sd Card?

Just want to know if it is worth to get a card that is alot faster
 
No point in getting a superfast card, the functions won't be affected much. For example, the mplayer reads movies at a certain speed. This won't change, no matter what speed SD card you put in.
 
Wat speed should i get to play game properly?
I know iz dumb but i tried the slowest card and it cant emulate games some full speed games gets abit laggy

is 80x enuf?
 
it depends on which software you use,if you use a PSX emulator then a fast sd card will make the loads shorter.
but maybe there is a bandwidth limit in the bus that connect the MMSP2(the GP2X CPU) to th sd slot so maybe if you have a 150x card it will run like a 80x card(just a number it not the real one).
i know that my Zaurus C1000 run cards up to 100x even that i have a 133x card.
 
Interesting.. I have been wondering the same thing. If I am to get say a 1gig SD card I might as well get a 150x for shorter loading times, transfer rates etc. But the question is if the GP2X bus will use it all, or maby it is just a question of firmware?

Maby this is something to ask GamePark Holdings..
 
Wikipedia has a pretty good explanation.

Most SD cards will do 4 bits per transfer at 25MHz, that is 12.5MB/s. This corresponds to "80x" on the speed scale. MMC cards on the other hand only do 1-bit transfers at a maximum of 10MHz, so the data rate is 1.25MB/s, or about "8x". Faster SD cards like "133x" (20MB/s) or "150x" (22.5MB/s) are extensions to the SD standard.

No-one knows what the GPH firmware does for transfers. The MMSP2 chip is capable of at least 80x and probably faster, depending on the software. Hopefully all will become clear when (if?) we get the kernel source code.
 
the kernel source should be open because if it is not they are valioting the GPL lisence
 
Buy a fast one. If the gp2x cannot profit from the max speed, maybe you can use it later for another device. I did the mistake and bought the ordinary SanDisk 1gb card. The speed is just ridiculously slow, my camera is not able to record movies on this card and my pocket pc does not like it at all. But I guess the normal SanDisks are the slowest cards that are available.

woah - hang on - so a card that brags about being 66x is actually slower than normal!

No, the "basic" cards have a speed of around 8-10x.

66x would be a good solution for GP2X.
