Duke Nukem 3d

That was a quick response, thanks! :)

I just tried it, and it no longer exits to the launcher like it was previously doing.

It now proceeds to the game selection screen (new game, options, etc). If you select new game - the foreground clears, leaves the background image and then hangs. Actually if you select any of the options it does the same thing apparently.

You have to decompile the GRP file, delete the demo.DMO files, and then recompile the grp file.

I have a problem when starting The Birth. It just goes to a blank screen. If I delete the animation cinema file thingy from the grp, will that fix it?

OK, I just tried that. Now the original .gpe does the same thing the test .gpe does. Which is clear the foreground and then hang when I select new game.

I'm using FW 1.1.0 if that makes any difference.

You might have a really funky version of Duke 3d then.

When I run my duke3d exe on my computer, it says "version 1.5".
Whenever I used the unaltered GRP file (along with user.con, game.con, and defs.con), it would show the 3d realms logo (kinda grayish... not the yellow and blue 'plastic blocks'), then it'd show the duke 3d logo, then it'd say "loading..." then quit back to the menu.

Now, after I decompiled the grp, removed the demo files, and recompiled the grp, it was able to do the above, and actually get to the menu. the episodes worked fined after that (except The Birth... but I think that may be because it has to play that intro cinema at the beginning).

And I'm using the original non-test version of the gpe.

edit: Yep, deleting the ANM files (except the logo ones) fixed The Birth. I sure would like to be able to enter cheat codes. :( (mostly so I can skip levels), and it's really hard to get into the esc menu from ingame, but other than that, everything's great. :)

edit 2: also, I'm having problems where CERTAIN sounds are playing too fast (high pitch), but others aren't.

You're pressing the wrong button ;) A is select, and B is go back up the menu, but currently pressing B at the main menu screen will remove the menu and leave you completely stuck.

DOH! Yeah that was it. After removing the .DMO files and recompiling the .grp - it works!

Thanks again for the port, and your help! :)

If you use the test version I posted then you shouldn't have to remove the demos from the .grp as the demo loading code has been disabled. In other news I'm slowly working through the bugs in 1.3 (gravity should be fixed now but I haven't tested the code yet) and there should be a new release tomorrow.

The Megadrive-only version isn't even a mere shadow of the original. I shudder at it. The PC version (which, in my opinion is the best) is your best bet of all the ports. =P

If someone can show you even a screenshot of the first level of either versions, you'll see. o.o

To elaborate on this, frankly the megadrive version is utter crap, and not worth your attention. hehe.

Thanks for all your hard work woogal, cant wait to get stuck into this. It should get posted up as news on the front page i think coz loads of people really want to play it, well done! :)

New version was released yesterday, which I assume you're not using (otherwise you wouldn't be posting into an old thread). Please get the new version (check the news forum) and try again. I'm now ignoring any more posts to this thread as most of the information in it is out of date.

Im using atomic edition and it works fine, there is a readme in the download
with specific instructions on what files to copy and where to put them.

utter utter utter utter pap!

Everytime i boot and begin it goes black. I am a few files missing even from the shareware, not sure where to get the others...

But enough about me! :p

I have no idea why duke nukem 3d is not working for me, same problems as i have with myself im afraid..

Make sure you press 'A' instead of 'B' to select a menu item. I had that trouble for a while...

Oh happy day. I just got this working.

One question, the controls, I know we can change em in the duke3d.cfg file, however, it's a little confusing.

Any one got some kind of guide as to what maps to what and how we can adjust this accordingly?

Thanks
