lik sang has a new mpeg4 recorder that takes video from dvd players and the like
Neuros MPEG-4 Recorder 2
im sorry if this has been posted but is the gp2x capable of playing mpeg 4 yet. I heard of issues on it but that was a while back. And if they aren't gp2x compatible can you just put them in an avi? it sounds like a good deal to me, i might be getting a job so i'll be able to buy cool gadgets and whatnot. Chic-fil-a!!! woo hoo

That page is very uninformative, what the hecks that thing use for storage, or transfer, or anger management!

Yeah, I may have mentioned it in a random post.

Nobody reads em, I ramble too much.

http://www.neurosaudio.com/store/prod_recorder.asp has much better info on the device.

http://www.neurosaudio.com/store/recorder_details.asp

It records directly to SD(or CF) in mp4 video, and is a USB 2.0 SD card-reader.

Think of it as a VCR for your SD and CF cards, to play on a PSP!?!?

I am sure we will soon be able to use it on our GP2X.

It is tiny: picture next to a quarter (medium size coin)

The Neuros MPEG-4 Recorder II uses Compact Flash or Memory Stick media to record video content. You can plug any analog source into it and it will record to an MPEG-4 format that is also compatible with the PSP's MPEG-4 format in resolutions between 320x240 to 640x480. You should be able to losslessly put the video and audio into an .avi container, but the audio is recorded in AAC format, which the GP2X cannot play, so you will need to reencode the audio. If you live in the US/Canada, it is probably more economical to buy it direct from Neuros here: http://www.neurosaudio.com/store/product.a...cat=products%20

On the other hand, the Neuros MPEG-4 Recorder I uses CF and SD cards. Again, you can plug any analog source into it just like a VCR to record content. It records in Microsofts .asf file format at only 320x240 resolution. You can losslessly put the video and audio into an .avi container, and it will be the same as DivX ;-) 3.11a content (DivX3 is the MPEG-4 codec used in asf but hacked so it can be put in an avi container). I'm not sure about what format the audio is in, so you might need to reendcode the audio for the GP2X. You can also buy it from Neuros for $20 cheaper here: http://www.neurosaudio.com/store/product.a...ct%5Fid=4030000

There is also a portable media player offered by Neuros, called the Neuros 442, which can record video from any analog source. It has a 40GB hard drive and an SD slot. Like the Recorder I, it records in .asf format but at 720x240 resolution. They are planning an upgraded version which will record at fill 720x480 and also some new features determined by user input, and it will run on Linux. You can get it here: http://www.neurosaudio.com/store/prod_442.asp

None of these products are perfect for use with the GP2X. The Recorder II records in mp4 format and can't write directly to your SD card; the Recorder I can write to your SD card, but it is in a format that is currently unsupported, I believe, and the resolution is only adequate for viewing on the GP2X; the 442 recordings can be put directly on your SD card, but it records in .asf also and the resolution is odd.

I know alot about that community and company because I own a Neuros I audio player. I have been very happy with it because it was one of the few players (I think the only) to play OGG Vorbis, when I purchased it, and it has great features not offered by many other players (I had a lot of similar reasons for buying the GP2X). Also, Neuros is very supportive of the open source community. The firmware and sync software for their audio players are open source; they plan on an upgraded 442 that will be completely open source from the beggining and will be basicly a product reflecting the community's views. Their new audio player will be a great audophile's portable with many audio recording abilities, a high-end ADC/DAC (which will also be in the new 442), and FM transmitting.

Anyway, there's a lot of intersting information about their products and upcoming products scattered around various website's of their's. There's a wiki, open source developer's website, and a forum with all this information kind of scattered about. I think it's a real pain if you are trying to look for something in particular.

Right on the money, less flash, more meat :D .

I notice the specs on the MMSP2 have video in capability, I think it would have rocked maojor hard-core if the GP2X could have had a VIVO chip for the TV, then we could record and what not. The chip *IS* designed for DVR machines and Divx recorders. I would like to see a DVR addon/dock :D .

I was writing mine before you posted yours :) .

That would be really cool, but if we really wanted to do that, it would take some serious hard- and soft-ware hacking  .

Wow, my guess was it was big as opposed to small, the quarter conparason really helps. Sadly though, thats pretty pointless to me with my no cable, infact the only video i ever watch is on my laptop anyway, no need for a dvr for that.

I know, simplest/cheapest (for mass-production) would probably be another circuit board to put all the chips on.

Another route is USB input of the TV signal, we could get a USBtv dongle thing attached to it.

Remember the EXT has USB Host mode.

I know, it is smaller than my tv remote, its remote is smaller than my credit card, its battery is smaller than my watch batter, the elves making the batteries are smaller than the keebler elves.

I would use it to record my favorite TV shows to watch at lunch or whatever, and show to my friends.

That remote seems hauntingly unusable, how long before i lose that though, and then how would i use the thing.

Nice, but check out the One For All(tm) remote, I bought one at walmart for ~$11 and got a $0.50 i2c rom chip for it from digikey (shipping was ~$6 so I got a few extra, anybody need one? i got the 2k chip I think).

I got it for a Tevion DVD player I bought on eBay (German "Medion") nobody had a remote for it in the states, It is *entirely* computer programmable, macros the whole nine yards. I can also put "punch through" and "home theater" modes so I can put my VCR on channel, tune the sound on the stereo, and navigate my DVD without ever pressing the mode buttons to switch devices.

Edit: they were "broken" cost me $20 including shipping for two of the DVD players.

One had keylock on the faceplate lit, key "8" on my Apex remote put that code right to bed.

Edit2: I have the whole Rom chip backed up on my PC, so if it goes down or gets lost, I just buy another, install a rom chip, and Upload right back where I was.

hey, even though it isn't perfect i might still get it, how cool would it be to play the star wars kid videos and stuff on my tv! sure the gp2x will have that tv out cable but we still wouldn't have cf support and cf is a lot more storage for a lot cheaper.
