This came up 6mo or a year ago, and a few of us went out and picked up WC2bn but never got around to multiplaying :)

Why WC2?

o It used to rock (so many years ago :)
o It runs on anything pretty much
o Its dirt cheap in the bargain bin

I installed and fired it up.. even works :)

All the multiplayer folks on bn already are psycho-players who've been playing for 10 years and know the main strategies. (Ogres, Ogres, Ogres.)

Anyone for newbie WC2, gp32 folks only? :)

Ugh, Warcraft 2.
It is alright, but there is virtually no difference between the two races. They all have the same units, but they are just skinned to look orcish or human. Why not Warcraft 3? There are so many more stratagies you can use in it.

Better yet how about Starcraft. The races are different AND balanced. If not, I'll be okay to get a copy of WC 2, it's only $10 I believe.

WC3 actually costs real money ;)

Myself, I have WC3 though never played it (really, not enough time :/)

I've also got SC and Brood Wars expansion, but man.. haven't touched that in .. 6 years probably? damn :)

I'm game for a Starcraft or SC-BW game night if others are -- as long as we're all sucking at it :)

Warcraft 2 is still one of the best rts games EVER, i playd it ages and anges and ages ..... when i first got it on my nice 486 :)
And its one of the few games my father also likes :)

Oh yeah, WC2 was one of the best games ever, and the first game that I ever played multiplayer - using a Pentium 90 and a 486sx-25 hooked together with a null modem across the serial ports... great fun. I still have wc2, and would be willing to play, count me in.

Screw Ogres. Knights for Life :D

Im game for warcraft 2. Havent played it in years though but I dont think I was too bad.

I played WC2 10 years ago. I played a guy that always beat me. 10 years on I haven't played games at all. Been too busy with real life. But now it's the holiday season and I have time on my hands. Another friend has invited me over for a day's network gaming with a few other guys.

My feeling is that they ruined Warcraft by jumping on the Hero-based game in WC3. The AI can use it all at once. No human can keep up with that; unfair. I loved WC 1/2, Command & conquer, Civilization, Age of the Empires... (in that order).

Warcraft 2 captured something special for me. It was beautiful in it's simplicity. It remains addictive to me - even after all these years. I am really looking forward to playing it again. I hope Battle.Net runs on my XP box with no configuration trouble. I don't wanna muck around! Stuff should just work! I'm interested to see how well Battle.Net works trying to play people in other countries...

So hopefully after 10 years I will be able to remember all the old tricks. I don't agree that "Orcs and humans are pretty much the same". Being able to turn Dragons into Sheep is a massive advantage for the humans. In turn, being able to make Whirl winds that do lots of damage and then just run away is a great tool for the Orcs. An invisible Transport ship can be quite and onnoyance for the Orcs, etc...

It is like a tense chess game to me.

kids you have no idea.

go and try Total Annhihilation. came out in 1997 and is still the best RTS for me ever. the interface is as perfect as possible and the graphics look nice even today.
never got why starcraft was so much more popular :)
