How Much Xtra Would You Have Paid For A Gp2x With:

£200 pounds - I would of definitely purchased it. Think about Wi-fi then Kaleria with the emulators. Internet surfing - put my gp2x downstairs next to the hi-fi whilst streaming mp3s from my PC(i'm sure its very possible.

Infact - I would probably pay more - as the potential of the device would of been immense. Streaming Divx via PC through your TV.......

I don't think it's a matter of cost. Time is far more valuable to GPH at the moment. They are currently snowed under with the current workload getting the GP2X out the door in its current guise. Add Wi-fi and/or USB host to that and you will be waiting till the end of 2006 before you see the device.

Hahahahahahah thats funny, Are we supposed to believe that GPH are so clueless it would have taken the an entire year to add these features, I'm currently working on some hardware with one other designer and our hardware is a lot more complex than the GP2X (Nothing to do with gaming, DJ kit) and when we change something it goesin the next design no problems at all.

I don't wanna get down on GPH here but please dont talk total rubbish like they aren't big enough or clever enough to do this, The facts are that they have saved probably around $20-30 per unit to not add WiFi, This is done on a strictly "We want more profit" ideal, For some reason though people round here actually believe GPH dont do this to make profits which is total crap, Fair play to GPH for turning a profit but they should have looked at this stuff better, They really did miss the boat here.

-why should i watch movies directly from my pc-hdd via the PSP on that tiny screen, if i can watch them on the TV or monitor? that is just weird.

- why should i listen to mp3's from my pc via the PSP, if i can instead listen to them on my stereo? that is really weird.

- why on earth should i control my pc mouse with my PSP ???? this is even more than just weird!

- and to the winamp-control: it's really easier to just go to the pc than booting the PSP, connecting, etc...

Youo realise we are talkin about the GP2X yes not the PSP ??

yes, but where's the point?
what can you do if the gp2x had a wireless network feature. i don't see the use of it.
(except the people who have a gp2x, too)

No it was done on the 'if it is $20-30 cheaper, more Units will be sold, and thus turning into more profit' ideal :p
And who needs Wifi without a proper input device (like a touchpad) anyways?

Well, Wifi wouldn't matter to me that much, but i guess it adds some neat features and possibilities (viewing divx on tv via wifi e.g., or multiplayer games: gp2x vs gp2x or gp2x vs pc)

the USB OTG feature on teh other hand allows you to do so many more , you really can attach a ext. HD then e.g. or other devices, like a webcam perhaps? or an infrared port; gp2x is now also your tv remote control :)

hell! i'd have paid £180

built in wi-fi would have tempted a LOT of psp devs over imho. with wireless, possibilities really are endless.

and usb-otg or at least powered, digicams, mp3 players, my 1gb usb stick, hd's....

i know there's chances for mods and extras to be bolted on but....cant help thinking they've missed a trick.

USB is the one I'll miss. I want to be able to hook up some of the alternative joystick adapters I have, like my Stelladaptor, and possibly a keyboard when playing via tv out. Although now that I think about it, support for this stuff involves more than hw support, programs would have to be changed to accomodate them so it's not so easy to say.

wifi isn't a big deal to me personally.

Now this is why I'd pay up to 20 bucks extra (perhaps even 30) for a gp32 with usb host.

- True console gaming. Connect gp2x to the tv, add a usb controller to it, and voila.

If you want that, you can buy a Dreamcast for 20 bucks, its emulation is pretty good.

I have no interest in these features... In fact, I'm glad they didn't bother with them, since it makes the system cheaper for people like me who just want the basics.

Can you put a Dreamcast in your pocket? can you play it on a train/bus/subway?

I also agree with the above statements that GPH Inc. cheaped out on what the GP2X could have been.

Omiting USB Host was a mistake plain and simple.

Even if host mode ONLY worked with a extra 5V adaptor/extra battery it would have been enough.

Personally I would have added in Compact Flash instead of SD, but there are space issues/wiring requirements that would be much greater than SD.

Both however would rock. (But then a Li-ION battery would be needed...but hey can't they make it compatible with some common one?)

I would probably pay a few bucks extra, because it's extra frosting on the cake... But I'm sure we'll see it sooner or later. I mean, if someone can hack a console or an ipod and do just about anything they want with it, I'm sure they can get wifi working on a gp2x, which is mostly open source already.

yeah but there is no wi-fi built in the hardware correct?

if I wanted that crap i'd have bought a PSP.

I want a good, cheap portable emulation box and media player.

Guess what, that's the GP2X! :D
