During my early morning Internet travels, I stumbled across this. It's an external battery pack for the PSP that uses a cord to plug into the handheld. My question is would it be possible to use this with the GP2X? Are the power cable spots on the two machines the same? If not, would it be possible/fairly easy to mod one of these to use with a GP2X? I know I'm jumping the gun here a bit seeing as how none of us (save for a couple of devs and retailers) have one yet, but AA batteries can get expensive, and rechargable AA's suck. I'm wondering if this might be a workable solution for those of us who aren't a fan of AA's.

Why do you dislike rechargeable AA's? I've had great experiences with them on my Gp32 for several years now.

Yeah, they work as they should, and if you have couple, you can have two charging up as the other two are in use.

Only thing I've noticed, as they are 1.2volts against 1.5 from AA, and thus don't allow one to overclock as much.

Edit: And Vimacs brings to me another point in favor of rechargeables. The tech advances all the time, I have 2100 mAH and 2300mAH accu's, bought in span of one year, and now 2500mAH is available.

And soon, my GP2X is powered by NUCLEAR BATTERIES!!!!

It's just been my experience that they don't hold a charge as well or last as long as Li-ion batteries. I haven't used them in a while, though, since most of the portable electronics I have these days has its own Li-ion battery.

I beg to differ I'm afraid... I left a set of rechargeables at about 2/3 charge in my GP32 before I went to Nepal (forgot to take them out - idiot me). When I got back they STILL had a good couple of hours in them for playing of Sonic on - 7 months later!

Now if that isn't a decent rate of charge storage, then I don't know what is...

well, nimh looses charge fast compared to alkali, but its still nothing to worry about, they carg in a couple of hours and if you leave them in a cahrger (if you have a decent one) they get hold on charge.

Just by a high quality AA charger with 4 batteries. Those should last quite some time and you can charge them 2 at a time if you want and on some models you can even charge only 1 at a time. If 4 isn't enough then just by an extra pack and charge 4 at a time while bringing 4 with you.

Eh, why not take GP32 with you? What's in Nepal, anyways? :)

My rechargable RadioShack batteries are NiMH and charge to 100% in 15 minutes after a full discharge. Only $40 for four batteries and the station, and I plan on buying more.

They last about 250 shots in my Canon, as opposed to 35-40 shots with regular batteries, so there's your comparison.

I am going to use my 2,000mAh batteries which charge up in 10 or 15 minutes. There is no reason to get a dumb battery pack that you have to lug around. Just spend $40 bucks on 4 batteries and a charger, you won't regrette it. Get some that are over 2,000mAh, the more the better.

The only reason they make them for the PSP is the generally unfounded fear that you'll always blow all your energy in 3 hours while you're out of the house, snd thus this leaves you a way to extend your play time or recharge what you have... of course you can buy a pack of AA batteries for 3 bucks if you're truely that hard up after 8 - 12 hours of various function playback.

They also make these battery packs for Digital cameras but thats like for the people who record all 36 hours of their wife's labor or photographers who shoot about 900 shots an hour. it could be used for the 2X but I doubt you'd ever really have a opportunity to need it unless you're absolutly horrible about recharging your rechargeable batteries.
