OK so heres the dealio..
I finally got money for a psp and have about $320 I can spend plus a pay check coming in a few days with about an extra $50 I can spend and a $20 gift cardd to circuit city :p (so I can probably get 2 different things).

First off, I'm perfectly happy with emulation on the GP32 and don't really care about what the PSP has to offer for homebrew right now. Second I'll be going on a 3 week car trip around the U.S. in a couple of weeks with mi familia.. My family does own a nice chevy express van though with 2 flip down tv's and a VCR and DVD player and we also have a connection and car adapter for my gamecube.. unfortunatly my little brother and sister are always playing it and my mom won't let me play M games or watch 'R' movies when on the trip (due to my little brother and sister). So I don't really need the psp for movies either... oh and I have an iPod for music. I quite like THUG2 for the 'cube so I'll probably be getting that for my PSP no matter what any of you guys vote.

As for the types of games I like, I pretty much play anything but tend to lean towards arcade-ness over realism (ex: I'd rather play burnout 3 than gt4) but still have a lot of fun with realistic games as well.

I'm kinda dragging this on but since I'm going on a long ass trip it'd probably be wise to invest in either the power brick or a car adapter (do they even make these?)

Also, has anyone here played the FPS Coded Arms yet, If so how well does it work with out a second stick?

And finally, I haven't been to eb games in a while but do you think any local game stores might have any used games yet? ;)

If you have any other comments about the PSP feel free to leave those as well (other than emu/homebrew please.. not interested)

EDIT: never mind the coded arms thing... didn't realize it wasn't even out yet

thats what the other category is for  I completely forgot about it and wouldn't really know what category to put it under ;)

I forgot to put wipout pure under racing as well... that's why there were more generic categories.

 No wipeout pure.

This will last the trip and then some. :)
Bloody good game, Even little bro and sis can play it, If they get their grubby mitts on it, That is. :p

Trooper

Oh don't worry, that's what the psp'll be for... whatever I want and no brother/sister allowed

I own two games for my PSP (and the Spiderman 2 that came with it).

I have Ridge Racer, which is freaking awesome. I remember staring in awe at Ridge Racer V when my brother first hooked up his PS2, and then I remember playing that game nonstop afterwards (not sure if my brother appreciated that...). Well, It's not quite as awe-inspiring as V had been years ago, but the gameplay is still freaking awesome.

The other game I own is Ape Escape: On the Loose (which you didn't include...). The PSP's selection of platformers is very limited at the current time... there's only one--Ape Escape. By no means is it the greatest game and it controlled better on the dual shock, but this game still plays very well and it is a lot of fun. If you played this game on the PS1, don't bother--the only change made was improved graphics. But if you didn't play it on PS1 and you like platformers, it's a fun game to hold you over till some serious platforming reaches the PSP.

metal gear acid and 'pure is all i have, recommend them highly.
ape escape looks choice

again, that's why I included the others category.. (I've also never played ape escape and didn't really know what it was)

has anyone here purchased the car adapter or the power brick?

i have ridge racer, lumines, tiger woods and ape escape on the loose, ive also owned ape academy and twisted metal, the game i play most is ridge racer, it was the first i had and its the one i play most, tiger woods is good to. but i reckon you get ridge racer and thug2, not played thug on psp but i love the tony hawk series and if you like all the others you cant go wrong, although i heard the controls are a bit cack.

Ridge Racer - My first PSP game. I loved this. A real feeling of racing. Depth in the game too. great graphics. Highly recommeded as an arcade racer. 8/10

Wipeout. I've loved the older wipeouts, so was really hopeful for this one. Firstly it looks amazing, beautiful and very fast with wonderful scenic detail. Then i started playing it. After Ridge it all seemed wrong. It was too difficult, too slippy. I hated it and was gonna put it on ebay. But i perservered, and slowly started to get to grips with it. I started to advance, learn the courses, choose my vehicle with care. And I fell in love. It plays like a dream, rewards practice and is still getting better. A real investment of your time and so satisfying when you get it right! 8.5/10.

THUG hated it. wasn't a fan of the console version, so... nice graphics tho, and some nice features. If you like TH then ignore me. But 4/10.

Fifa so buggy. not finished, takes forever to load (forever between games too!). Once you learn how to score you just do the same. Always score with strikers (what does that tell you...?). Looks nice. Did i say buggy? Yet i really enoyed it too. I played it a lot, got behind my team (liverpool), commentary bad (always too late!), still 7/10

Lumines. A very good puzzler, nice simple graphics, lots of depth, good tunes. A safe choice. 8/10

Untold legends. It's new for me, but so far it's fine. Good fun, brainless simple adventuring. I'll be bored of it soon, but till then I'll be exploring nicely drawn dungeons. Very basic rpg, but the only one for us westeners 7/10

Hot shots golf- top game. Not a golf fan me, but this is just fun! No loading times (hardly), nice graphics, simple but deep gameplay! Highly recommeded for easy no brain gaming that'll probably last! 8/10!

That's my experience. Hope it helps

thanks everyone. went out and got my psp today with ridge racer, thug2, and a car adapter. I traded in my old gba and 13 games and got $63!!! I figured I'd only get around $20 so I'm happy.

First Impressions..
Ridge Racer..Never player a ridge game before and diddn't really know what to expect. I'm in the fourth tour/circuit already and am loving it.

THUG2.. Love it but would like it better with a create - a - park mode. Also, I still gotta get used to the controls cause I own it on gamecube and am used to playing with the analog stick.. not the d-pad...BIG difference. Also, I like the new PSP exclusive levels a lot

next game I get will be a big decision. either wipeout, NFSU Rivals, DUB3, Coded Arms, or Dead to Rights.

he worst game ive had is twisted metal i think(i dont think i put that game in my last post). apparently its good online but one player its too easy and gets boring too quickly. ok graphics though.
i dnt think i'll bother now with the current batch of games, im going to wait for pursuit force, burnout legends and death jr.

no no... wait for the Ninja <_< :D

thank god I'm not the only one who disliked Twisted Metal :p it does seem the guys who really like it, for the most part, are the ones playing it online. It was the third worst game I've owned, only above Untold Legends (which actually would have been better if not for the darkness/blurring issues), and Rengoku.

Yeah, I love Twisted Metal because of the online. I'm done with the 1 player.
