Have a look at the links in my signature, I can't get hold of these people. A lot of the people in #gp32dev (a bunch of ace people by the way) are advising me to do it.

Also if you can get some of the devs themselves to see this topic, to see what they think.

Otherwise I'll have to release it without some software which isn't good :(

Thanks

-Tom

for the ones you didn't get permission or replies just put the links on the cd
That's a pretty sweet idea actually.

But I thought the whole point of this is for people without good/any internet connection...

I'd say wait till GBAX 2005 is done. Then you can have that stuff too.

firefly1201 I think Fire_Blade meant that I should put the software on as well as links of recognition to the developer. Also smart thinking Goity.

I would say release it with all the software - even the ones you can't get a hold of, after all the software is available for download on websites, if they really felt that strongly about not having their work distributed they would have gotten in touch with you by now, also they would have requested their software be pulled from the websites....so I say put it all on the disc you have given them more then enough time to get back in touch with you.

That´s not the point. If that were the point it would be futile to ask ANY developers beforehand.
The point is simply that it is illegal to commercially* distribute software without a license/agreement with the author.

*EDIT: That means, in this case charging money for it. I don´t want to imply that kknd_cf wants to make big bucks.

But to want extent is any of this software considered commercial? If the platform is designed to be opensource, then surely there MAY be some justification in assuming that all software created for it must be opensource and freely distributable so long as no profit is being made. Just like Linux. Redhat/Mandrake or whomever can't make money off linux, so the download is free, but they can charge you a nominal fee for buying it on disk. Obviously, you can't put licensed commercial games on there since these are contracted out by GamePark, but if the dev isn't receiving royalties for their program?!... Sure, it's gray-area, and if you check ebay there are people that have been selling CD/DVD collections of this stuff for $15 a pop and doing quite well too.

Cheers!

1. The GP32 isn´t Opensource. There´s an official public SDK for it, that´s all.

2. Linux can be distributed on CD´s because its license allows it. This is not the case for most freeware Programs.

3. I weren´t talking about moral, but legal matters.

The case is, with the GP32, is that when someone releases freeware, they assume people know it can be distributed free of charge on the web. (Except for the case of Giana's Return, where the author specifically said they're the only site that can distribute it). But they aren't usually specific about other ways of distribution. And since THEY have the copyright on it, not asking permission and distributing it in another form puts you at risk for legal action. "you" in this case would be kknd_cf.
