Well I thought I was capable of doing the 32MB upgrade, but it appears I'm wrong. Those SMT TSOPs are damn small! I've replaced them in the past OK, but this time I'm beaten. Lifted several traces and now I've pushed some pins under the chip when trying to remove a solder bridge. Bound to lift more traces if I remove it and try again! 5 wires to CPU is too many!

Anyway I'm willing to sell this in bits or all together. Maybe it can be repaired? Be possible, but you'll probably need to run some wires to replace broken traces.

Parts I believe still work fine that may be useful to fix another GP32:
LCD screen
Case
PCB if you want to salvage anything but RAM!

I also have a spare (untouched -> bought just in case) 256Mb SDRAM if anyone else is mad enough to attempt the upgrade. It is a Micron 48LC16M16A2 - 7E.

Anyone interested?

I'm going to try to answer all these at once...

LCD:
AFAIK the LCDs can not be bought seperately, seems a common breakage and is a large proportion of the cost of the unit. I'd guess its worth in the region of 25-30UKP? That said make me a reasonable offer (by e-mail) and I'll probably accept since it is no use to me now!

To fit a new LCD you have to take the whole GP32 to pieces. It is not hard, just takes a little while and is fiddly:
i) Undo 6 screws on the back and remove back of case.
ii) Unscrew grey part of case and remove.
iii) Unclip joystick (pulls off) and other buttons (on/off, and L/R shoulder).
iv) Unscrew main board.
v) Unplug speakers from main board and press on plastic clips.
v) Main board can now be removed. The LCD ribbon slots into this board.

Case:
I'd guess its worth about a tenner? I could sell the battery cover seperately _if_ anyone is interested in getting the case without the battery cover. BTW the case itself is in good order, though the screen cover is quite scratched.

Location:
I'm in Goodmayes, Essex. I commute to Canary Wharf though.

Thanks,

Mark

Ok so second hand gp32 usually sell around 60-70 with accessories so i reckon a reasonable offer would be about £40

hmm i kinda need the battery cover because mine is lost somewhere in the dungeon that is my room but if you need it i wouldnt mind looking for it , if you knock off like £3.

OmarNawaz: Offer accepted. Presume you are UK based since you asked where in London I am? Anyway I sent you an e-mail (through the board).

project-2501: I think I'm going to have to include the battery cover in the sale to Omar. Unless either of us can convince Omar to look for it ;)

Thanks,

Mark

pwuuuhhh i tidied my room for the first time in like 2 1/2 years i found alot of interesting things that im gonna donate to scientific research annnywayy i found the battery cover rotting under my bed so project-2501 you can have the battery cover.

comiserations on f**king up youre GP32 :S
Thanks:)

Thing is I'm bound to try again on the replacement! I'm tempted to find someone else to fit the memory who is more skilled. Sad thing is I studied Microelectronics and don't know anyone! Or I could get a 128MB Zodiac instead.

I would really like the battery cover but only if omarnawaz doesn't mind not having one with the case :)
Well you're in luck since Omar found the cover. Please e-mail me since your address registerd on the board does not work.

Is £3 ok? If you let me know your address I can get it posted first thing.

Ick. Crossed wires I think. I sent the battery case to Project 2501 once you said you'd found yours. Presumed it meant we were going for the £37 arrangement?
