However, I was able to read the PMEM area without starting the DSP in my test module. Or maybe the startup was hidden from my eyes? hwmods might have activated some clocks behind my back.
I have now tested my module on Linux-6.x and it dumps PMEM area fine. For this test I disabled sound support entirely in the kernel config and only used my test module. I can dump PMEM repeatedly by removing and inserting the module.
I had to add
#include <linux/mod_devicetable.h> /* Needed for struct of_device_id */
to compile in on v6.5. But I have not tested.
There must be something we do while loading some of the audio drivers that make this stop working.
Well, we can also read the pmem when disabling the EVENT_TIMER setup.
So it is the attempt to start the AESS DSP which finally breaks things. AFAIK the DSP has also access to the L3/L4 interchanges and may make a hickup (i.e. lock) there if the AESS clocks are not properly set up?
Let's see what Tony will comment.
