I've been playing about with u-boot and the emmc a bit, and installed u-boot on there. Things work great, including having the rootfs on emmc.
As a side effect, this frees up the microsd card slot. So when i inserted a card, i noticed the following.
The card only seems to be detected at boot. No device gets created, nor does anything show up in dmesg when its inserted later. Nothing when it's removed either. If a card was there at boot and is removed later, mmcblk1* just stays there, returing I/O errors when accessed.

I don’t know if the OMAP5432EVM hardware supports card-detect.
It might be a missing gpio definition in the omap5432-evm.dts (on which we base our Pyra work).
And does it also happen with upstream kernel?
