Well, I agree that most of the drawbacks mentioned there are significant.
For me personally the decision is clear:
If a day comes where I am forced to install a Rust cross-compiler on my machines to develop the kernel, I won't do that. Rather I'll stop contributing. I have done enough for kernel projects, that learning a different language and toolchain isn't awarding... I already had to install libyaml and learn Python indentation rules for the new device tree bindings and that was not a pleasure.
So my hope is that it will be a dead-end and will not survive :)
