I got a reply from Allwinner... doesn't sound like it will be useful for us at all.

Hello,
Thanks for your interest in A80. Please see my reply below in your mail.
- When would development boards be available (A80 OptimusBoard)------
Presently the baord is just for internal development and we don't have plan to sell it till now.
- When would the A80 go into production?
Maybe in Q2
- Are the needed technical documents and design guides already
available? If not, any approximate date?
not ready yet, release time is undetermined.
- We are planning quantities of about 10,000 per year.
Production at the beginning is planned in quantities of 1000, so it would be great if we could buy in batches similar to that. Is that quantity possible? What would the approx. price per SoC be?
need to be decided after the chipset release
- Will Linux drivers be available? We are aware that some drivers
(like the PowerVR) will only have sourcecode for the kernel part available, and the firmware itself will be a binary blob. That is perfectly fine.
to be confirmed
- Are there any informations about power usage (perf/W curves) and max. heat development available already?
not ready yet
- Is there a distributor available in Germany?
Presently we don't have German distributor
Well, it is like as we had asked TI in March 2011 about the just announced OMAP5.

Well, they are in a stage as we are with the Pyra - the concept is here and they need the first (ES1.0) chips for demonstrators.
- When would the A80 go into production?
Maybe in Q2
This is likely not yet mass production...
And we know from TI that such a processor also needs several Silicon releases :)

Ok, it looks as if there announcement is more of the type "hey world, look we have invented the first ARM octacore called A80".
But they don't "have" it (and not in the sense "have it for sales").
- Will Linux drivers be available? We are aware that some drivers

Ok, they are still in debugging the chip...
So it appears to be even worse than with TI OMAP3 for the OpenPandora.
My recommendation:
if community wants to have the same troubles (delay, delay, bug, delay) as with the OpenPandora - we can decide for the A80.
The same holds (even worse) with the newly announced Cortex-A17.
- Is there a distributor available in Germany?
Presently we don't have German distributor

With the difference that Allwinner announced the first finished consumer products in September, so it should've been further advanced already ;)

Yes, for sure.
This likely means: "we will show the first consumer product in September" but we don't know when it will be available at which price etc. :)
