Looks like AESS block is not clocked and hwmod is not properly initialized (maybe I'll copy from omap4-hwmod) where it's present.
Yes, that is very likely. Idid similar adventures for the OMAP3 PVR/SGX integration. hwmods are unfortunately incomplete. Sometimes they even have to switch some L3/L4 stuff which is black magic.
