so it indeed also uses a DC/DC converter to go from the 5V input jack to VSYS.
But it is a third type of chips (compared to EVM and Pyra). After looking into the data sheet, this TPS53318 appears to be able to work from input voltages even below 3.7V so it can convert down or up as needed.
So it is far more independent of real input voltage than the converter used on the EVM.
This puzzle piece also seems to fit into our explanation.
