Ah, aufs is not included in a normal kernel then, I guess? Okay.
@Nikolaus: Do you have anything against the aufs patch inclusion in the Letux kernel?
The problem with aufs is that it sometimes doesn't have patches for the latest kernel, and it can take quite a while for it to catch up. It doesn't happen too often, but there have been cases where it took a few weeks before there was a working aufs for the current pyra kernel again.
Well, yes, but something has to compile everything for the Debian packages - or is that being done automatically?
No, that's currently done manually.
Ah, nice! Is the splash screen working now? I'd love to try that out.
technically it works, but it displays mostly garbage on screen instead of nice graphics. It's probably the kernel text output messing up the framebuffer. I haven't dug too deeply into the exact cause.
And about the hardware testing scripts: You probably told me already (I forgot), but how can I tell the system that it should start the hardware test?
It's an option in the boot menu. it launches the kernel with init set to /usr/share/pyra/scripts/init-hwtest.sh
