Hi,
I did'nt know about this Pyra project, look like a very nice little toy !
As we started to discuss with Tony on another email thread :
- etnaviv is used for the GC320 composition core, and is for 2D
acceleration only. The open source Xorg driver I'm working on enable composition and XVideo acceleration using etnaviv kernel driver and is mainly benefical for desktop environment and applications.
- Tomi is working on a SGX driver that will be closed source for legal
purpose, but that will enable OpenGLES 3D acceleration in conjonction with Xorg driver through DRI3.
All of this is in alpha state, but usable. You can already try the open source part, but we need to work with Tomi on the 3D part a little more.
For reference, I ran few quick tests on beagleboard-x15 this morning. Full screen glxgears easily gets around 68 fps constantly, with CPUs at 85% while running stellarium still sucks very much at 5 - 6 fps and CPUs at 100%. So probably not usable without SGX for gaming because of the high CPU usage, and no idea why the difference would be so big between glxgears and stellarium.
GC320 is a 2D compositing IP, so what did you expect? I'm quite sure all 3D is done by mesa in software for you.
Yeah so it seems. I was expecting etnaviv to help with 3D too until Julien told me that GC320 is not same as GC2000 on imx6 for example. Oh well.

Tony
