OK, not quite news since this story broke in February, but I've been waiting for further details to come and they haven't so I may as well plonk this here now.
Hot on the heels of the Commodore 64's rebirth ( http://www.gp32x.de/board/index.php?/topic/59219-commodore-64-is-back-again/ ) news comes that Elite - yes, they of Spectrum era gaming and latter-day iPhone emulation packages - are to release a replica 48K Spectrum. However, word is that it will not be a functioning computer but a controller keyboard for more accurate play in conjunction with emulators on other platforms - most specifically (bleh) their offerings on the iPhone.

Whoopee, and Aaargh. Some years ago I tried to enquire about the rights to the physical likeness of the original spectrum for just this purpose (though a wired keyboard version, with the tape ports used to funnel a PCs headphone output to an onboard speaker for added authenticity). I got no response and other stuff occupied my mind in the meantime. D'oh!
I would have opted to make it from as many identical parts as possible - that way they could be used to restore & repair actual Spectrums too. I get the impression Elite's device will not take that route.
