Yet another design suggestion for Pyra

Because the Pandora lacks some ergonomics, I thought about how this could be improved for Pyra.

Also, I have thought about some other features. There are many suggestions about the features in this forum. Too many to read through them all, so I just keep it simple.

So here is my concept suggestion:

- clampshell (ok, that's already decided)

- ergonomic shape (rounded trapezoid like)

- four shoulder buttons

+1 for ergonomics.

-2 for wasted screen space :)

-3 for odd-shape

-4 for not having 4 shoulder buttons

-------------------------------------------------------

Total = -8 points = fail :)

Looks weird to me, especially when opened.  XD

Why not make it a full rectangle?

I wanted to make it more like a joypad.

Btw: there were a few mistakes. I have forgotten the notch for better grip  B)

I just edited it.

The screen is now bigger and there are speakers.

-4 for not having 4 shoulder buttons
There are 4 shoulder buttons. They are seperaded by a small bridge.
I know, the shape is a little bit uncommon.

I quite like the shape as a way to have conventional speakers in the top but waste less free space.

I'm not sure how comfortable it'd be for the game buttons though. Yes, modern gamepads are that shape (kind of) but they're designed for you to wrap your spare fingers around and use as palm support, which isn't something you can do with a flat keyboard.

Agree.

Also I'd like to have a keyboard instead of one super seized button :p .

+6 for having a 6 button layout.

How much more portable does the trapezoid shape actually make it?

Yeah the 6 button layout is a good call.

Hopefully that is planned .... eh ED *nudge nudge* :)

I didn't say it was bad. It just didn't understand the reason behind it.  Still, isn't it a bit too curve?

Good question! Well, I think that's in the eye of the beholder. I had the NVidia Shield in mind which is definitely too curvy. My Idea was somehow to flatten a gamepad. That's why it's that curvy.

The basic idea were the rounded sides without these edges which sometimes hurt a little bit when holding the Pandora. Also I wanted small shoulder buttons (to save space) which are still well separated.

So the shoulder buttons curve inwards towards each other so you can rest your finger between them? It sounds interesting, but will they be easy to use in practice?

Honestly, I don't know, but I think so. It would be nice to have a prototype to try it out.

I meant more a non-virtual mockup. Whatever, maybe I will build something with this type of shoulder buttons, in next time, just to see if it's usable or not.
