Today i am releasing xBak: Get It Here

    xBak Homepage
xBaK is a fan-made remake of the classic Sierra computer RPG "Betrayal at Krondor" running on linux. xBaK is basicly a game engine, that uses the data files that came with the original game by Sierra Online. You should already have your own copy of "Betrayal at Krondor", the required data files are NOT distributed with xBaK. The xBaK engine is licensed under the GPL. xBaK is being developed on linux, using SDL for portability.

Ive ported it to GP2X and windows. Ive added joystick control to the GP2X version. Currently the GP2X does not support sound. To experience the current state of the sound system run the windows version.
Please follow the instructions in the README, plus the following:

    **** GP2X ****
    1. Place the xBak_devkit.gpe anywhere on your SD.
    2. Place the Bak data files in any of the paths listed above. I recommend putting them next
to the gpe or in a folder krondor at the same location as the gpe.
    3. I also recommend using GMenu2X, as you can use it overclock xBak through it.

    **** Windows ****
    1. Place the xBak_release.exe any where on your PC.
    2. Place the Bak data files in any of the paths listed above. I recommend putting them next
to the gpe or in a folder krondor at the same location as the gpe.
    3. You must place the timidity files on your C:\, i.e C:\TIMIDITY[/cut]

Aside from having no sound, are there any other limitations due to the engine (or the port itself)?

GREAT work, BTW. I have this game on its original disc, so this'll be a blast to try out!

Well done on getting this out there, it'll be nice to see the additions as the Linux XBaK advances as well.

I'll try it out when I get the chance, congrats again. Hope you get the sound working.

yes there are, first the entire engine is still in an alpha stage. Its not a playable game yet, but here's and idea of what is possible:
The rolling intro works, but needs some polishing up
The menu system is pretty much finished
The movie intro's are functioning, but need work
The 3D view shows a few objects, trees, camp fires, body
The 3D menu system framework is there, just not much functionality.

First, many might be put off but the stage at which the engine is at. But I would remind eveyone that as this progress's the work is already done for converting it to the GP2X, all we need to do is wait.
As the minor releases are made I will try to release them to the GP2X community.

Looks cool! :) can you make it a little faster?

Mouse sometimes stops for me if i moving it too fast.

About controls, if i remember correctly, there should be button ALT or CTRL, which helps cursor movements a lot.

Offtop: Long ago i was playing this game without mouse at all (oh yeah, we haven`t had any, these were the times...)

I can make it faster, ive also thought about maybe using the shoulder button to switch between a fast and slow speed. So normally have it go fast then press the right shoulder button and it moves 1 pixel at a time.

Ive also seen the cursor stop, is happens when you shift between one position to another. Specifically i think going from a diag to straight. I need to display the events again to see whats really happening.

Some of the keys are setup, like the arrows work. Those i could map to joystick buttons, but my intention is not to add more keyboard functionality. I will leave that up to the original author.
