Is it possible to have a TV input on the Pandora? If not how could this be accomplished?

There is no video in only video out. For audio there is a stereo audio in however.

More importantly what do you want Video In for ??

I would imagine capture device could possibly work. It would have to be supported by Linux and you'll need to have the right driver on the Pandora (might already be in the Kernel or not). I am no expert in video capture but I guess you would need an adapter that does hardware compression.

I know others have gotten their TV capture cards to work, and I've had two different webcams running on my Pandora, so yeah, video in is definitely possible. It just needs a USB interface. The webcams I tried just worked, no need for drivers (which will probably not be the case for all webcams, but should be for many) but TV input from a USB device will need drivers, I'm sure. Can't remember off the top of my head, but some long and careful searching through the forums will find the others who were doing this. Good luck!

my main worry with video in would be if you plan on saving it (encoding on the fly is already a bit hard if you plan on going hd), but also, right now, writing on the sd card is a cpu intensive operation (at least in my tests).

as far as displaying a video in goes, that shouldnt be a problem, so long as you can compile some linux drivers (if there is some sources it should be possible).

Now the issue i could see with using that for remote control would be, how much reaction time are you planning to get.

most tv tuner will get quite a few seconds delay, i cant say i tryed that many, but from my personal experiences, i would usually get a delay of 2-3 secs between the input and the display.

I don't know how it is with USB tuners, but my SAA7134 based one in my workstation hasn't any noticable delay, I've played Playstation 2 using its composite input.

well, i guess its been some time since i ever bought any xD.

i used a pentium 3 900mhz back then. the technology most likely improved a lot since.

If anyone has had any good experiences with USB video capture devices on Linux, do share your experiences. I'm well versed in the PCI based cards as I've gone through a few in my mythboxes, but I've never had a good experience to date with a USB capture system.
