USB webcam issue

I have got an issue with a usb digital miscroscope: when connecting it registers, and pandora generates a /dev/video0
however, when trying to use this (with e.g. mplayer), its reported as busy and program will abort. after this the /dev/video0
is gone (and the lsusb no longer reports the device).

for me it looks like a driver issue, is there a way to debug or tweak this?

Why mplayer?
Try a webcam tool like _cheese_first.

the dmesg is:

is cheese available for pandora?? (dont expect it to behave differently...))

That looks good..its registered as Device in the right way:
Here is one working ;)

Install Mplayer on the Nand with this Howto:
and then start this Software:
https://repo.openpandora.org/?page=detail&app=camera-001

Edit:
sometimes i realy miss a newer Kernel with more Videodrivers on the Pandora like Dvb-t2 Devices

dmesg reports the disconnect of the usb device, w/o any error:
[ 698.880767] usb 1-2: USB disconnect, device number 2

Hmm, maybe it's not a crash then, just the device itself not liking what the driver's saying to it and dropping the mic.

Unfortunately, there's not a lot we can do with this information. There might be an updated codebase that could be ported, but at this stage in the life of the pandora, I'd prioritise a kernel that's still supported over any specific driver update myself. I've not checked, but IIRC the LTS we're on ran out in the Autumn at some point.

Apparently i meant _camcoder_ for the pandora, using cheese on the desktop tho.
Some cams need to be configurated, i dont expect you tell mplayer to do it.
Maybe it's a power issue, and a powered USB2 Hub is needed?
Are we talking about the same pandora that powers a hub of HDDs without giving a fuck?

interstingly, if I connect to my laptop (which is running opensuse tumbleweed), i get:

Code:
[ 3458.059387] usb 1-1: new high-speed USB device number 3 using xhci_hcd
[ 3458.234901] usb 1-1: New USB device found, idVendor=05e3, idProduct=0510, bcdDevice=12.09
[ 3458.234910] usb 1-1: New USB device strings: Mfr=2, Product=3, SerialNumber=0
[ 3458.234915] usb 1-1: Product: USB2.0 UVC PC Camera
[ 3458.234920] usb 1-1: Manufacturer: GenesysLogic Technology Co., Ltd.
[ 3458.346615] videodev: Linux video capture interface: v2.00
[ 3458.362683] uvcvideo: Found UVC 1.00 device USB2.0 UVC PC Camera (05e3:0510)
[ 3458.363670] uvcvideo: Failed to query (GET_INFO) UVC control 4 on unit 1: -32 (exp. 1).
[ 3458.416377] uvcvideo: UVC non compliance - GET_DEF(PROBE) not supported. Enabling workaround.
[ 3458.417359] input: USB2.0 UVC PC Camera: USB2.0 UV as /devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:14.0/usb1/1-1/1-1:1.0/input/input28
[ 3458.417555] usbcore: registered new interface driver uvcvideo
[ 3458.417556] USB Video Class driver (1.1.1)

and it does work. Maybe its the bit about the non-compliance and the workaround that is not implemented on the pandora kernel/modules...??
(hmm...I tried out on an older machine, and there it works w/o reporting the bit about the workaround...1.1.0 video class driver though)

It's not the same on my side, an HDD doesn't get enough juice from my Pandora to operate correctly and I need a powered Hub to use it.
