These days I feel like I'm made of braces

As some of you know, when I'm not clowning about in youtube videos, I like to dress in very traditionally British ways, sharp, tailored and smart.

Those of you who hate the ballooning effect that a tucked in shirt can produce after, for example, getting out of the car, should visit

For the finest solution - this will change your life if you are a sharp dresser.

And that's the end of the latest of my intermittent fashion tips.

T-shirt and jeans please; I lack style.

Though the shirt companion would not function well if you were wearing sandals. Or shorts. Yet highly comical in both cases.

Fortunately I cannot imagine a situation where a chap would wear shorts or sandals.

@ FaeMinx: hehe, in Dutch dapper means brave.

I have to say it'd be very brave to put this kind of contraption on (not to mention the suit itself ..)

Oh noes. I saw these yesterday. They're kind sort of 'man-suspenders'. Now, I like the ladies in stockings and suspenders - that's sexy. This, on the other hand is...well, it just seems wrong. Doesn't look the most comfortable either, it would be all scratchy in your trousers!

Each to their own though. Heck, I wear 'crocs' with socks and I understand from the more fashion conscious among us that this is a big no-no. Meh.

The eclectic but stylish Terry Hall.... no braces this time!

There is no possible way I could wear those, the feeling of elasticated bands rubbing against my legs would drive me insane. There must be some sort of bouncing effect too when you move around, you'd feel like a marionette.

I was considering getting some braces so that I didn't have to always wear a belt to work, and I think they look smart, and obviously I want to be able to twang them for effect, but I'm not about to go out and buy new trousers with brace buttons so I'd be getting the clip on kind. One thing bothers me though; I'm fairly sure I had a pair when I was small, and one piece twanged off and hit me in the face, now I have a healthy fear that I would be miserably stood around at work, possibly talking to someone important or attractive, and then *fwip* I get a chipped tooth and a red stripe across my face.

Lol. I did exactly that when I was a kid too. I remember the buckle hitting me in the teeth! Ouch!

Oh dear boys, real braces are not made from that horrible elastic, but box cloth - the leather fastenings are made of goatskin and those at the front will adjust slightly with the body’s movements

The 'twang' effect is only possibly on horrible 'Rab C Nesbit' style ones, or the ones they like to dress Neo-Nazis in on BBC programs.

A well tailored pair of trousers will change your life anyway, and may well be cheaper than the latest 'designer' brand.

Speaking of braces and designers, I've seen a worrying number of people wandering about with jeans with braces attached which are designed to just hang off the back, it looks ridiculous, and what's next? Just wearing a tie as a scarf?

I'd love to be able to afford my own tailor.

Many people would be surprised how cheap tailoring can be - and you get to have totally unique clothes made exactly how you want them - they will also last a lot longer than off the peg outfits.

I'd recommend maybe looking at shirts first, most tailors will do 5 shirts for as little as £50 each - but you will get separate collars and cuffs meaning not only can you replace these when they start to look worn but you can also mix and match them to give different effects than you could never do with 'off the peg' - you also get to choose the material, weight, style etc.

Or you can go and buy a £75-£100 piece of Chinese made 'quality' clothing from M&S which will fall apart within 24 months.

I was talking to a lady who was a tailor recently and she claimed that once you had a tailored suit you would never go back because it was so comfortable and properly proportioned for your figure. I took her word for it.
