Hi everyone

Please excuse my ignorance as I am somewhat of a newbie to all of this, but I was wondering if someone could give me some pointers on how to get an external wifi dongle working on the pandora? I bought one of the external wifi models directly from Craig, but I can't work out how to get it to use the external dongle rather than the internal one which of course does not work very well! I've tried searcing online but to no avail.

Can anyone help me out?

Cheers in advance

John

In menu -> system, you can disable the internal wifi. This will make network manager use the USb dongle (of course, you also need to activate the USB-host, which is also in the system menu iirc)

Thanks for the response and apologies for postingon the wrong board!

OK so I think what I need to know then is how to activate the USB host - I'm looking in the system menu but I can't see anything relating to it?

I'm trying to figure out where to disable the internal wifi in the system menu of XFCE. I've got a USB dongle to try, but am not having much luck.

First I need to disable the internal wifi, then enable USB Host?

And then this thing should just "work"?

The normal toggle wifi is used. If your WiFi-LED is off, then internal WiFi is disabled. And yes, the order of your steps looks right.

While the USB Host is enabled and the wifi is disabled, I try plugging in the dongle and get nothing. Is there anything I should have to setup? Should the device appear on the desktop? Do I need to configure VPN?

The dongle is bigger than what I was hoping for from the Ebay link, so I'm beginning to think that its not compatible, or that I need to do something more to enable it beyond enabling USB host.

My normal wi-fi is fine, but I was on a network the other day and think the internal wifi wasn't compatible. Plus I'm looking to add the dongles to the ithic.com Pandora shop.

Here's my dmesg:
