I posted earlier today in GPcinema Section about direct TV recording without post processing - I should've known it wouldn't work with GPCinema .......
BUT IT DOES with Moviepark !!!!!
I've just recorded using VirtualVCR DIRECT to SMC encoding with ffvfw/MP3 at 10fps -
924K/min, and watched it straight on my GP32. (BTW you can also use DIVX 4.12 or XVID)
I've always held that Moviepark was a better product and now I'm convinced - unless of course someone can prove otherwise ?

Interesting. I wouldn't base your entire judgement of GPCinema on this though! THere's isn't it just a transfer rate thing when you;re encoding at a higher framerate. SAving to SMC takes longer than loading from it, so even if the data will stream fast enough off it, it may have problems saving at that speed. Dont know if this has anything to do with your particular problem though.

Cheers

OK - just to make it clear :-
Put SMC in card reader/writer.
Tune VirtualVCR(freeware) to station of your choice, and setup to encode DIVX/MP3 and write directly to SMC.
Hit the record button to record program ( or use a scheduler to record later)
Remove SMC and insert in GP32 and watch the program (45-50Mb/hr) on MoviePark.

Now try it with GPCinema - nuff said!

wouldn't it wear out the card a lot faster that way?
so by your logic, using a smc, may damage it.

I think an smc will corrupt after somthing like 30,000 writes to it. An smc should last you a good while before it dies but it will probably get messed up quicker than your harddrive will. This is a good idea though I have a tv tuner and i schedual it to record shows to a folder which I then stream to my xbox in the living room to simulate a pvr. This is a simple idea and just takes it one step further. It would be a great idea to buy a card reader and 2 dedicated smc's for video. You could have one full of videos with you all the time while the other one would sit in your card reader all the time. Set the tv to record to it and then when your home swap out the cards. this way you would always have somthing new to watch with out all of the hassle of having to fiddle with converting things. This is a great idea some day when I have the cash to spend I'll probably give it a shot.

Easy, how many frames per second can moviepark go? Then for GPcinema? :)

Are you currently using xvid to encode? I think gpcinema could be a bit picker with the codecs?

I said "better" not faster . If speed was the only criterion then GPCinema wins.
If you want to spend half of your life searching for the right codec, doing a two pass in VirtualDub or whatever, just to end up with a file which is way to big (more fps-bigger size) and which MIGHT work on your GP32, then stick with GPCinema.
If on the other hand you want to record directly to SMC and use a player which can handle just about any codec you can throw at it, then MoviePark is the one.
