Samsung DeX

Looks sensible, especcially the combination of stand+connector+fan.
Would be interesting with a proper Linux.

If that keyboard's bluetooth is so slow that characters don't appear on screen as you press the key, bluetooth (or samsung's implementation) has got a lot worse since I last bought a BT keyboard ;)

Wasn't Samsung working on their own OS called Tizen? Feels like they should have made this an exclusive to that as a way to spark more interest in a new phone OS. None the less it's pretty damn cool. The ide of having one device I just pop into a dock when I get home is really appealing.

I think Tizen's dead by now. It was meant to be the next big thing about ten years ago, then it was the OS they used in their feature phones, but these days cheap android has basically squeezed even that out I reckon.

I do wonder if this has anything to do with code from the android remix project. That's big spin was to create a tiling window manager that runs on android specifically for tablets of external displays, which is what this does too.

I had a motorola phone that had a desktop dock but back then phones were not really fast enough for a desktop. I think it was the same chipset the Pandora had if I remember correctly, I had my phone, my Pandora, and my Archos 10.1(?) that all had the same chipset.

The fan on this dock is pretty nifty though, and did I hear there was a hard drive in the dock? Pretty sweet if it had some extra storage in it. When I had my phone with the dock I thought that was the future for sure but it never really happened. I think it all depends on Google, they need to merge their chrome OS and Android so when plugged into HDMI it turns into a full desktop OS. This one looks a little annoying to use.

The Exynos of the Samsung is even faster than the OMAP 5 of our Pyra. So the user experience will not be limited by that - But by the limit of usable apps and a golden cage which I would expect from Samsung. If Dex would be a full desktop Linux chroot I would be positively surprised. I expect something in the league of Windows RT/Continuum
