Hi guys, I found this on the web:
http://rv12.revoltzone.net/rvgl.php

It's a port of the commercial game Re-volt, the car racing game. Maybe it would works better than the vanilla game because it doesn't need Wine, I'm not sure.

It is written on the website:" It's powered entirely by modern, open source components." so I'm going to look if I can get the source code.

A thread for debian users:

A YouTube video with online gaming:

Cheers

Hi..this is a Nice Idea but we can play this Game on the Pandora with:
Playstation Emulator for the PSX Version,
N64 Emulator for the N64 Version,
and GHZ Users with the Dreamcast Emulator the Dreamcast Version.

Are you shure that we need a Native Version?

It's more a matter of taste than an other thing, but I found the other versions not as nice as the computer one.

So it's nicer, faster, you have online multiplayer mod, splitscreen mod, map editor, you can customise everything, add car, etc... But you're right, there is still the others versions.

I'm talking about this if someone is interested, because I know that without any source code, porting isn't possible. I know that Trashy tried to run the vanilla version on the omap5 devboard but it was really slow.

I was just curious to know how It would run with this version, on the Pandora and on the Pyra, even if we don't have GPU drivers.

The PC version was the best looking one and it sucks on PSX.
Nice to see an OpenSource port, does it enable bots in multiplayer mode?
It was the one thing this game was badly missing on PC.

It would be nice to have a native port, but it doesn't seems open-source...
I registered on their forum, they're planning to release it, I don't know when, but they will. I opened a thread on their forum to ask if they are willing to, so from now we can only wait.

Right now it's working on debian/Linux.

Hi,

Some good news from one of the devs:

"Hi Faust,

That's excellent.. one of our goals in making Re-Volt cross-platform was to eventually have it ported to more platforms - possibly Linux based consoles and handhelds.

Sharing the source code is tricky because the game rights are protected, as you probably know. The current publishers have somewhat similar ambitions as we do, but we didn't really get along well. We asked them for the rights to publish the PC version and clear the status of our source code. It would have let us make the game legally available and open source our code, which could have benefited both the community and the publishers.

If we go ahead with this we have to remember it's a totally unofficial port and the source cannot be released yet to the wider public. We are currently a team of two (jigebren and myself), and of late it's just me. We're used to coordinating simply by email and it worked between us, but if the scope of the project is going to expand, some proper version control becomes necessary...

So the prerequisite to sharing our code is to have some kind of centralized git repository where we can monitor and share each of our progress and keep the different branches aligned with our PC base. In the past we considered BitBucket and GitLab, so maybe they're still good options...."

So if he can keeps the source code under control, and we can keep the source code unavailable, I think he would gives us.

I'm going to talk with him about our repository, I'm confident, he seems to be a kind guy, and I really think that he would happy to share with us.

Does someone wants to port it? If yes maybe the person can reassure him and suggest him some proposal to keep things under control?

@Faust : I can try to do the port. I have already done a few closed source port, either on a private Bitbucket repo (Daikatana) or by mail (le mini slug project). I'm fine with both ways.
I'm glad to hear that you are aboard pal, shall I introduce you to Huki, or You want to do it by yourself?

A native port of Revolt for Pandora/Pyra sounds cool,
how diverent is the pc Version from the Dreamcast/PSX Version???
PSX version was really stripped down graphics wise, Dreamcast was slightly better, but still not as good as the PC version.
