I think you are interested in that I have tried the letux/gta04-replicant

http://download.goldelico.com/letux-replicant/4.2/
http://projects.goldelico.com/p/gta04-replicant/

with 4.6-kernel (needed for OMAP5 support) on the Pyra protoype and it did boot a little (but yet not to GUI).
Needs some more work of course to fix details where GTA04 and Pyra differ.

We (@goldelico) have a freelancer who would do it on donation-basis - but he needs hardware and time (is currently involved deeply in a start-up).

Awesome! A little question. In theory, It is possible to make all the Pyra components run?

Do you see a possibility to have it set up in a VM?

Not really. And it would be difficult to operate the VM if Replicant takes over the whole GUI to be able to switch back so something else.
But it could be simply a second SD card from which you can boot in 30-40 seconds.

Yes. Replicant is Linux plus some Java GUI and Java apps. Nothing really special. The only factor is time and that is scarce with volunteers. Hence the idea to collect donations and pay a freelancer who is competent to work on it for a living.

Could the VM not run it in a fullscreen window or maximized window?

A different Question:
Do you already have a solution on hand to start closed source Android/IOS Apps without the need to shut down Linux?
I'm talking about having WhatsApp (or any Messenger) running while the Desktop is booted.

Oh, I though Replicant is a Android fork or something like that. Count with my wallet in case you start with a crowfunding :D (I'm not very friend of the "normal" donations but if there's no other way...).
